Apparently I can't have a full copy as the notes written about me are NHS property?????????????????????????????
I can have certain parts...for a £50.00 starting fee, this increases depending on how much I want............................
Is this correct?

I asked for a full set of medical notes for the whole family. Both OH and I had to send in written permission for the notes to be released, OH specifically mentioned that he was happy for me to collect them as he would be in NZ. They asked us to give them a week to get them together. It then cost $75.00 for 3 FULL sets of medical notes - me, OH and our Son. I had to collect them personally from the surgery and they asked for ID (my driving licence was sufficient) before they would hand them over.

Hubby's notes started off as free, then they wanted £40.00 for notes, when we said we just wanted last 12 months, it was reduced to £15.00....apparently it is £10.00 for something to do with data protection, and 35p per photocopy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It basically says that everyone has the right to have a copy their medical records under the Data Protection Act 1998.
Your GP holds your medical records. Notes from treatment received elsewhere, such as in a hospital, will be kept there. But your GP should also receive a summary report, and this will be added to your medical records.
This charge is £10 if you just require information that is held in a computerised format, but if there are also manual records it could be up to £50. The fee often depends on the amount of information in your file. You can find out the exact amount by ringing your surgery, hospital or health authority.
Sorry to say Holland....seems it may be true!

My surgery gave a basic printoff for both of us for free. There would of been a cost if we wanted more . I wrote to them from NZ for some specifics regarding hospital treatment & they posted a full set almost by return & didn't charge us! Maybe it was because of the distance but I think it's the luck of what your surgery ethos is. Good luck.

mmmmm, we obviously don't have friendly surgeries....we ased for a simple print out....just a brief overview...got nowhere, it has honestly like we have been speaking a different language asking for these notes, the surgeries seem to be in shock that we are asking for them....I'm going without mine!!

When we registered with a doctor here, the surgery faxed our od Uk GP and requested our notes.
They faxed out a precis and then followed up with a hard copy in the post. No charge!
Maybe it would pay to wait until you get here and then get your new GP to ask?
Good luck. :nice1

We got a medical summary printed off for free. It has details of all of recent appointments, All BP readings etc for last couple of years, prescription detail, immunisations etc. If we wanted a full record i.e. non-computerised hard copy, it would have been £10 each, but unless you have an unusual medical history of particular health problems, then it is probably not necessary.
