Hi all
More questions am afraid. We have removal company coming tomorrow to give us a quote on shipping (still trying to stay positive that house WILL sell :D ) - any questions we should be asking?? Things we need to cover that may not be so obvious to someone who hasn't done this sort of thing before
Thanks for any hints or tips in advance

Erm...
I asked:
* How long will it take?
* Any hidden costs at all....
* Insurance cover...although probs best going with another company...
* How much price difference packing yourself/them packing...
* How long it will take to pack your house up?
*How much notice they need to book them?
* When the payment will go out of account
* who does inventory...what you are required to do in the process
* Will a human contact NAME AND NUMBER be provided of someone that is specifically dealing with your stuff?
* Any stiplulations they may have about what type of property they will deliver to at the other end...eg, I think our company won't go up a steep hill or something:uhoh Could be wrong, I do seem to be loosing my mind at the minute!
* Whether they offer storage for your stuff this end and NZ end if required..cost of this...they may throw it in.
* I asked............VERY CHEEKY ....'do your staff have police checks!'....they are packing my house up after all!!!
* ASk them what things you are forbidden to take...and what stuff you arebest not taking to save on MAF fee's....
erm...theres probably lots more, but I found that they are very professional, and usually come prepared with all info, and you will think of questions as you go along.
Good Luck

oh yes...ask them about how they pack things, and what they do for breakables...we are having a crate made for one of our mirrors...costing more than the mirror!...but it has sentimental value

Hi Karen
The rep can probably do his sales talk in his sleep but ask them if they have moved anyone to NZ recently :D do they have any customer recommendations/testimonials? (hope that makes sense)
Point out any valuables and ask how they would wrap them. Say if you prefer to have it wrapped differently.
Ask for 2 quotes; one for the company to pack everything and transport it and one for you packing everything with them suppling packing materials.
Check for container access at your present house too.
Ask which company they use in NZ.
Get more than one quote, then put them in order of preference and haggle on the price.
Use Letton Percival for the insurance.
Good luck! :nice1
You can always search for the company name on here, find any threads on them.

If you want to avoid having stuff to clean for MAF purposes, particularly if you have a lot of camping/fishing/hiking/outdoor pursuits stuff you might want to ask if they will clean for you - unlikely but might be worth asking.
If you are taking bicycles ask how they will be packed - ours have just arrived and I'm VERY unhappy about the way they were packed its a miracle they aren't ruined!
If you are taking any vehicles - car/motobikes/boat - will they deal with all the paperwork, are there any additional costs.
With they dismantle AND re-assemble large items of furniture.
If you need any parking suspensions (residents only/yellow lines) will they organise it with the local council or do you need to.
Can't think of anything else that hasn't been mentioned! Good luck!
