I'm thinking I need to get our house on the market, but since the new laws are now in place, I guess I need to get a HIP-thingy survey done. I'm assuming the estate agents can take care of this, but I thought I'd ask around before I sign up to anything.

- how long do they take to compile? i.e. how luch longer before the house goes up for sale?

- is there a set fee, or is it negotiable?

- do you have to go with the estate agent, or like with migration processes, is it easier and / or cheaper to do it yourself?

Any help will be gratefully received!

Thanks.

Hi Jane

We put our house on before HIPs came into effect but it fact our agent offers to do them for free. Other agents charge around £300 but I believe it doesn't delay the process at all.

Hello Jane, we're on the verge of putting our house on the market and the estate agents we're going to use are qualified in whatever so they can get the HIP info when they do the photos etc, then the house can go on the market within a day apparently. It will cost us £300, although some charge more so shop around.

Good luck! Carol

We've just had the HIPS pack done on our house.
Didn't slow the process down at all. The agents put the house on the market first and they have (I think) 28 days following this to get the HIPS information available for potential buyers. They just add it on to the brochure/website at a later date.

Our agent covered the cost as part of the fee.

Hope that helps.
