Hello everyone,

I've been dreamily reading this forum for some months now and can see that everyone is offering wise and learned advice. It's been my own dream since I first visited NZ 10 years ago to return and live there but it's always seemed such an impossible one because I work in a niche industry.

Now that dream has amazingly zoomed into my grasp because I've been offered a great job in NZ :clap I'm over the moon but I'm not entirely sure how to proceed. That's because my future employer would like me to start work around January and, looking at everybody's list of dates here it seems to take a lot longer than that to get through the immigration process. I'm on my own and it would help me enormously if anyone could advise me if it is possible to get there and start work when I need to.
I've checked my points on the EOI indicator and I'm over 140 so that's great news to start off with.

(Maybe I'm posting this thread in the wrong place so any advice would be most welcome!)

Thanks

Piper

I think you get a a work to residency visa, sponsored by your employer but someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly no doubt. :)

In the meantime, welcome to the forum

Hi Piper

Can't help with your query as we have got PR on a parent sponsorship, but wanted to say Hi and wish you luck with your application. You will find loads of helpful people on the forum and someone will probably have the answer to any questions you can think of.

Thank you both and hello,

I've had another little look around here and I came across an encouraging answer somewhere which said that if you have a job offer your application will be fast-tracked. So fingers x'ed...

hi piper,

welcome to the forum. my partner and i are moving to nz in jan. my OH has a job offer and we are meeting a guy on tuesday (from nz) who is sorting our visa's out.
originally we were going to nz on a visiting visa (which lasts for six months) then on arrival our employer (who is government approved to issue visas) said he could issue us with work permits within a couple of days.
Once in nz we will apply for residency which is apparently easier while living & working there (we did n't gain enough points on EOI to apply from the uk). our friends applied from the uk and it took them good while to gain residency (about 8 mnths i think).
can the employer who has offered you a job arrange a visa for you and then you could work to residency once in nz?
im a novice to all this and i hope it makes sense but sharing how we are going about it may help.

good luck, twinkle.

Hi Piper

Just want to say welcome to the forum. Can't really help as we were given PR, but indeed you should be able to get your Application fast tracked. Of course you'll need to submit your EOI first but there is a space to say you have been offered a job.

Not sure what happens after that but I think you will need some info from the NZ company that has offered you the job, possibly a copy of the contract?? It might be worth your while ringing NZIS and speaking to them direct as they are really good and will give you good advice.

Good luck, oh and well done. Whereabouts is the job?:)

speak to them at NZ house but a lot of people end up coming over on a work visa and then get the permanent residency sorted out while they are here.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Another thought too. I'm not sure, but I believe that you can start the PR process in the UK too and then move and work over here on your work visa.

Like Veronica says, speak to them at NZ house.

Congratulations on the job offer and good luck with visa process.

Congratulations.

To answer your question, you should get as much of your supporting documentation together as possible, as quickly as possible, and before you leave for NZ. That would include, and is not limited to, your education records, your employment records, and your police checks.
I'm from USA so don't know the British names for all those things, but from reading the forum for the past year, I'm sure there is someone here who can advise you of the documaents that you need to start collecting and where to go about it.

Thanks everybody for the 'congrats' - I still feel like I'm walking on air at the moment! What a feeling! It's something that I never thought would happen, ever. Only last week I was listening to a talk on the power of positive thinking - something must have got through! :laugh

I will give NZ House a call on Monday - thanks for that advice - I didn't even think of that from up here on Cloud Nine!

My job is in Christchurch - right beside the Avon River - aaaaaaaaaaah.
I'm going out for a holiday/recce in about 3 1/2 weeks time, I booked my flights today - can't wait.

(And it's lovely to feel so welcome on this brilliant forum too - warm comfortable feelings abound!)

I agree with Nathan. Get the paperwork sorted out while you are still in the UK, esp things like the police checks and qualifications. It is very frustrating trying to do these things long distance.

I'm going on a 'talent visa' - this is work to residence....basically it is a temporary work visa (temp. being 30 months!) and you apply for PR after two years. This is a fast track visa and once you submit it to Immigration in London it takes 5 DAYS to process. If you look up the NZIS website and look at Form NZIS 1015 - you can have a read and see if you have the requirements. The company you are going to work for may be accredited (long list on the website). If so, you can go down the talent route. Then it's just a case of getting a medical and a chest xray and bob's your uncle!

Good luck and welcome
