Hi - I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone will be able to help with...

First - any suggestions for where to buy sturdy flat pack boxes? I need to do a lot of packing away at home, in preparation for putting the house on the market (books, ornaments, CD's etc). I was thinking of buying a batch of flat-packs for storage (to be honest, it is mainly for books), can anyone suggest a good place to buy them?

Second - I have a large collection of old (WW2) books and newspapers / magazines, that I am loathe to part with. I am happy to ship them to NZ with me, and want to ensure that they will make the journey safely. Should I get some acid-free bags do you think? Or lots of silica gel? Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks,
Jane

Jane - I have heard that EBay have loads of different kinds of boxes available at good prices. I haven't tried it myself but may be worth a look!

We bought loads off ebay - good value and a good selection. But check your shippers - they may supply boxes especially if they pack for you (but that's another story).

acid free bags of the type I store my scrapbooking papers in are best - look on the scrapbooking sites under storage - they are generally 12x12

I dont know what country or if the UK what part of the country you are from (it does help to answer if thats on the profile) but check the yellow pages under cartons (I think thats what it was) In our area we found a guy that just dealt in recycled cardboard boxes and that worked out to be our cheapest option.

Would definitely check out you shippers first. They use several specific sized boxes for packing and if you use their own ones then they won't have to re-pack.

If you do get your own, then would be worth checking the sizes so that they can just place your boxes into theirs without wasting space.

If you just want a few boxes then Argos do some for house moving or archiving and also Staples do some as well.

Thanks everyone. I just need boxes for packing away my books and stuff, really to make the house look better for the estate agents / potential buyers.

Cheers!

My OH bought a job lot of plastic stacking boxes from a sale, he had a load of heavy stuff from the workshop and cardboard boxes would have been useless - he labelled them all up and the packers just put a number on them and added them to the inventory - we used quite a few for other heavy household item, books, kids games etc, no problems with MAF of anything here either!

Hi

We bought some from potential shipping companies when they came round to give us an initial quote as they sell boxes for books, mags etc. About £1 each from Fox's. Did not use them in the end but got the boxes for the same reason and the shipper we did use did not re pack them. They just had a look inside them to put on the inventory.
