I've gotten a few quotes and I'm wondering if these prices are normal.
The first one was $2950US for door to door/unassemble-reassemble (384 cbf ), but
"Following services are NOT included:
Terminal handling charges (THC)
Excess overflow charge/ per additional cubic foot: $6.00
Special customs inspection, customs penalties, quarantine,
Customs duties or taxes, container detention, storage and demurrages.
Special equipment, shuttles, difficult access, double handling, piano handling and safe handling.
Packing and materials will be charged upon use."
The other one was a complete service with a 20 foot container. I pack all the unbreakables, the do everything else. The total came to about $9790US.
Are either one of these even close or am I getting a bad deal.

The quote on the 20 ft is way off. We are coming from South Carolina. 40 ft at $6000 K door to door - all fees charges services included. to Chch. Includes crating one antique
Pm me if you want names of other shippers.

Hi mechidna, we are also going to be moving from Nebraska to New Zealand.
I am English, hubby is from here. We enquired about quotes a few months ago & I think one was around $7000 for a 20 ft container. Will have to ask the other half who that was through. We live out in the sticks so had a job finding any international shipping companies.
We have a job to go to in fact the contract date was for Jan 1st, thank goodness the people my husband has the job with are flexible as we are still patiently waiting ( finding out this is not one of my vitues) for NZIS to let us know where we stand.

negirl-where about in the sticks are you? I'm here in Omaha. I've found it more difficult to find shipping companies even here in the metro area. I've also changed NZ locations (going to Napier) so hopefully that will reduce prices a little.
Still waiting to hear from one shipper. Will let you know what happens with that.
roadrunner-$15000? That better be for everything, including the house. Are you looking at a 40ft container?

Mechidna, we are just outside of Aurora surrounded by corn fields (what else eh, here in the Cornhusker State :P ) nearest big town is Grand Island straight along I80 from you. We have 20 acres which is classed as a bit af a bigger yard around here. Lived in Omaha for a couple of months way back in '87 in the Harrisburg appts then went back to Saudi for another 2+ yrs. We are going to be moving to Ashburton working for a Center Pivot dealership, whenever the visa's come through.
I think we are feeling a little bit cautious in our old age so daren't even think of putting the house on the market until we know for sure we have those visa's. I can imagine all hell letting loose if & when the time comes.

I know where Aurora is! Actually, I'll be up in Grand Island in April for a boring 2 1/2 day staff meeting. I know where Harrisburg Square is too. Used to party there in my younger years.
I know what you mean about the visas. I'm not going anywhere until I get my passports returned to me with a big ol' PR stamp on it.

Well, to be clear, I didn't have anyone come to my house and give me that quote. I went online and input the amount of "stuff" I have, departure city, destination city, insurance amount, and then it gave me that quote. That seems much higher than everyone else so I am hoping I'll get a smaller quote when I actually have someone out to do a real estimate. The difference might be the amount I want to ensure it for?
I seem to recall Junnifer and Rich Adams having helpful ideas on this topic.
