Hello out there.

My name is Jill (36) and hubby, Neil (48). I am a nurse and Neil is a carpenter. I have been visiting this website for a little while and you really are a very friendly, helpful bunch !! How lovely !! So, I have now decided to register so I can chat to you all !!

We have been pondering the move across the HUGE pond and after the passing of our dear little old cat, Toffee, in August, we decided we should visit NZ. Having just come back, after getting a job at Christchurch hospital (well 3 jobs actually !!) last night we finally made the decision that we should leave the UK and set up home in NZ !!! Bit scary - actually that's an understatement - flipping pertrified but soooo excited too !!!

So - putting the house on the market this week and starting the visa process.

Any advice / help would be appreciated or just if you want to say Hello !! Or if you want to ask us anything - feel free !!

Well done on the job offers - are they all at Christchurch hopsital? I have just been offered a job here and they are holding it until we move next September so we may see you there. :)

Hello Nickydwuk

I guess you must have gone to Geneva Health interviews advertised in the Nursing Times. I rang up for the info however the interviews were whilst we were away in NZ !! But they obviously want UK nurses so were keen to interview me whilst I was on holiday. They have said when we get over there, hopefully March 08, it just depends where there are jobs, either respiratory ward, MAU or HDU. Have you sent your nursing registration off yet. It took me about 4 months altogether and I have just received my practicing cert. Uni took the longest to do the transcript of training.

We have found it very difficult to make the decision and I wasn't sure about my OH but give them a bit of time and they come round. It isn't something that can be rushed. We have been changing our mind for the past week but have finally come to the decision that we could have a better life in NZ.

The immigration process I think is a bit quicker if you have a job offer. When I went to the hospital there were quite a few brits dotted about and on the wards, as a staff nurse you look after 4 to 5 patients on a shift (early or late) - bit different to the UK !!! They only screen patients from overseas for MRSA and you would have to have a negative screen confirmation to take with you. They don't have HCA's just trained nurses. They are quite technoligically advanced to the UK but have old-fashioned values about looking after people. Seemed a nice place to work. Would be good to keep i touch.

4-5 patients per nurse sounds like heaven - much different than 15 per nurse (on a late). Not got my registration yet - sent it on 5th August and my transcript was sent on 24th August -that was the final bit they were waiting for. I will contact them next month to see how it is progressing.

My OH was undecided at the beginning too but I have just left him to research things & read up on things - I have told him what I have found out and checked it was ok with him for me to have the interview. He was just daunted by that physical move of selling the house & moving the dogs over as well. He is also more cautious than me but once I had the job he came round pretty quick and is just as excited as me.

And as for changing your minds - I have had a bit of a down week and thinking perhaps it wasn't right to move the family away from here but then we went to the Expo and came back in a more positive frame of mind - it does help now that OH is just as keen.

Keep us posted on your progress - I am in the planning stage and wnything you have found good or bad, helpful or otherwise would be great. :D
