:clap Yay..I'm registered and logged on! Well, that's gotta be a start? Complete forum virgin...please forgive me :o

Brief intro...We are Sue and Kev and we're looking into relocating from Cambridgeshire (UK). I'm a registered and practising nurse in the field of Learning Disabilities and my other half is a skilled labourer.

I've posted all my docs to the NZ Nursing Council...badgering the hell outta my colleagues to get their references written and sent! Guess it's just wait n see time with that.

Slowly wading through the EOI...think I score 135 but soooooooo not sure if my qualification (RNLD) will be considered as on the long term skills shortage list. Every other type of nurse seems to be listed? So much confusion as to when to submit the EOI too? I'm kinda thinking, wait for registration, another feather in my cap? Or do I try adding more feathers...job offer? Registered with a company in NZ who are looking at potential employers, job offers etc.

We're hopefully heading for the North, with potential employers being situated, apparently, in Aukland, Christchurch, Wellington and the Bay of Plenty? No real preference so I guess it would be dependent on offers.

Well, so much for brief! Got a little carried away there...hope I've not bored you all to tears?

Look forward to chatting with you guys...you certainly seem a friendly, welcoming bunch! :nice1

Hi Sue and Kev, welcome to the forum :)

I work in IT, but there seem to be lots of medical people (and teachers) on this forum, who will be able to advise you. Loads of really helpful people here.

Have fun with your EOI - it took me weeks to nail down all the questions!

Regards,
Jane

Thanx Hels and Jane

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions to ask along the way and from looking through the threads/posts so far, I'm confident that there'll be lots of valuable hints and advice.

Hi Anneliese...

I don't generally do roller coasters but have a feeling this is gonna be the biggest, longest, scariest one ever!

Welcome SNK05 - welcome to the rollerscoaster. You sound like you're well in command of things. There will be a few white knuckle moments along with as few periods of time where you wonder if anything's happening at all. Then, like the proverbial London bus - everything happens at once. Good luck.

Do I really sound like I know what I'm doing? OMG  I don't feel like I'm at all in control...lol

Kind of leaving it in the, hopefully, capable hands of an employment agency but hey....that's a completely different thread which I now have some questions about!

Hey Sue and Kev
Welcome from us too!! We're going down the same road and have just submitted our ITA at last - tons and tons of paperwork and purely personal opinion but I would submit EOI asap just to get things rolling. My understanding is that UK experience in regarded as comparable market especially in health sector and if your profession is listed on long term skills list then broadly experience is gained in absolute shortage area. My OH works in health (labs) and once got professional registration that seemed to move things along. Again only my experience (so far) and am sure loads of folks will have more useful info for you!
Best of luck
Karen

Thanx for the advice Karen :cheers

You've confirmed my thoughts on the comparable market bit but still concerned as to whether my qualification will be recognised as on the absolute skills shortage list. It doesn't specify Learning Disability nurses, tho I guess the bottom line is, I'm still a 1st level registered nurse! Hopefully I'll get some response from my other threads.

Thanx again :D

We'd originally said 6+ months ago....Oooooh, not til after christmas. Well now Christmas is almost here and the agency mentioned February so I'm kinda pooping myself!

We've no house to sell, not huge amounts to pack up, no kids....just us! That takes a little weight off. I have a horrible feeling it may be an 'all of a sudden rush' thing if it all comes off!?

Trying desperately to keep my feet on the ground but every now and then a little Wahoooooooh pops out!

I'm sooooooooooooooooooo not prepared....just in daydream mode!

Welcome SNK05.

We joined the forum today and have just come back from visiting NZ where I went for a job interview at Christchurch Hospital and from the replies I have received so far, it seems having a job offer can make the whole process that much easier - but as we have only just started the process I will keep you informed !!!

Welcome to the forum.
