Hi, I've been reading these boards for about 3 weeks now and have finally been 'allowed' to post!!!!
My oh and I have been considering a move to NZ for about 6 to 9 months and we are going to the expo in Manchester this weekend. We went to the emigrate show in York a few weeks ago - we were given complimentary tickets. It was ok as a taster but we are looking forward to Manchester.
I have read so much since finding this forum, and have found out quite a bit I didn't know and also some really usefull advise.
It won't be long I'm sure before I start asking questions and advice, but for now I just wanted to say hello.
My partner is a HGV driver and I work as a 'sales negotiator' in an estate agents, so we are taking the tourist visa then find a job route. Our house goes up for sale in about 6 weeks when we have finished decorating, then once we have a buyer we are going to buy our tickets, have a big party and go!!!
Thanks for reading.
Talk soon

Welcome Cath....
I'm completely with you on the useful info thing. I think I've learned more on here in the last few weeks than I have on the various other NZ sites I've looked on in the last few months....and it's soooooo much more personal.
I only registered yesterday so I'm somewhat a forum virgin but I'm getting there!
Good luck with your venture :D

Thanks for the warm welcomes!!
I'm currently dismantling unwanted furniture ready for the tip - none of it worth giving to charity. Before I moved in with my oh, he had done his dining room out quite strange - He's ordinary enough to look at but there was - well... a coffin in the room on the wall with the stereo and karaoke system in - a real coffin I might add - painted black with a Dracula head on the front - so, if anyone wants to buy a coffin...:o
Oh, and we also have lots of gothic type candlesticks, and figures, and knives - it was sort of my fault really, I took him to a pub in Nottingham called the Pit and Pendulum which is dark and quirky, He loved it and was ready to decorated and decided to recreate it - I thought it would last about 6 months but 5 years later!!!
Anyway, back to my trusty screwdriver and hammer!!:exit

Hi Cath and SNK05, welcome to the forum.
This is indeed a fantastic place to find answers to the many questions that come up in the process of emigrating to NZ, and support when times get tough to boot !
Wow Cath, that sounds like a truly fascinating living room :laugh, although I'm sure if you're going on the market and the House Doctor (Anne Maurice) saw it, she would probably dissaprove :D !
Wishing you both luck in the process !

Have you got as much of the paperwork together as poss before you go? I would be worth having the police reports etc done just before you leave due to their limited viability. I am assuming you will get the work permits fairly quickly and then apply for residence straight away (we did). Medicals can be done here easily enough, but some of the other bits take forever and can be even worse if you are already on the other side of the planet.

Hi Nick, yes, I have looked intoall the paperwork. I shall apply for the police reports once we have a sale underway. Karl is a HGV driver, which is why we have to get work permits once He has a job. It will take a while I think before He has a job that qualifies him for the wtr and then to apply for pr. The elusive 50k a year is not common enough in his trade unfortunately, but I have seen a few on the internet.
I have experience in admin both public and private, so will be looking for work in that area. I hope to do some training or study toward an area of skills shortage so, the first of us that quals for wtr or pr will apply!!!

Hiya, hope your move continues to move along smoothly.
Sounds lush.........have to admit to both my hubbie and I being a bit gothy.... to the point that a little kid hid behine his mum in the supermarket and pointed at me while saying "look Mummy...." wee lad. And that was on one of my more restrained days!
But no, we don't want a coffin!! We want to sell our house too lol.

Hi Cath! Welcome. I would have been interested in your coffin for Callum, but I've got a house to sell too!
All the best, C x
