Apologies if this has been answered before.
I'm jumping the gun a bit, as I only had my EOI selected a couple of weeks ago, and I 'guess' things will be clearer if I get an ITA. But can someone tell me how common it is to get a PR without 'strings attached'?
I remember reading on the NZIS site that if an ITA is sucessful, then you may get either a PR or a work-to-PR visa. I can't find the quote now, but did find this rather wordy extract from the NZIS Residence handbook:

"If, as a result of the further assessment, a principal applicant is
assessed as having demonstrated an ability to successfully settle in
and contribute to New Zealand (see (b) above), their application will
be approved subject to meeting any other relevant requirements."
and
"If, as a result of the further assessment, a principal applicant is
assessed as having demonstrated they can realise their potential to
successfully settle in and contribute to New Zealand, a decision on
residence will be deferred and the principal applicant will be eligible
for the issue and/or grant of a work visa or permit for the purpose of
establishing themselves in skilled employment in New Zealand that is
ongoing. Principal applicants* who become established in ongoing
skilled employment for at least three months during the deferral
period will have their application for residence approved."

So I guess my question is, how do you demonstrate the ability to settle sucessfully (if you haven't yet got a job offer)?

Or is it 'normal' for PR visas to have conditions attached?

How many forumites have got a PR visa without a job offer or prior work experience in New Zealand?

Many thanks,
John.

Thanks for the question, I have no idea of an answer as just about to put in EOI, but will welcome all the answers you get.

Thanks for the help?

John,
I'm in the same boat you are - EOI selected but no job offer. I have heard and read the same thing you quote so I hope we hear the answer from someone out there!

Hi All,

it was the case until recently that all people without jobs to go to would be interviewed and, if successful, given an open 2 year work permit. You then needed to work in your chosen field for at least 3 months without interruption, then you would get PR.

However, the system has now been changed. If you have no job you still get an interview (over the telephone) and, as long as you can convince them that you have the intent and the means to get a job, you get PR straight away.

I hope this is clear.

Mark. :P

That's brilliant Mark, thanks ! And very clear. :nice1

Now for my next question:
Has anyone succesfully completed such a telephone interview, and if so could they please give me some pointers? :hopeso

I intend to go over to NZ for a reccie in March/April, so with luck I'll be able to gather some relevant info. then (i.e. I'll hopefully be able to answer some questions with the conviction of first-hand knowledge)
Cheers,
John.
