So does anyone do anything special for Halloween here in NZ? Do I need to get a tin of chocs for trick or treaters, or is that not done here?

We were in Wellington two years ago at halloween and yes groups of kids got dressed up and were going around with their Mums. Have to say their costumes were brilliant and they were very polite. :clap
(need those dancing halloween bananas)

Must be weird having bonfire night in spring time. My parents were always fanatical about wearing gloves around sparklers as they are hotter than boiling water. Can't somehow see kids wearing gloves this time of year:o
So are fireworks a big thing is Auckland? I used to love taking my daughter out to see the fireworks in UK, followed by friends round for mulled wine, potato wedges & cake :)

I've not once had trick or treaters come to my house on halloween here.
I know Moorf has though, because she posted a photo of her neighbours children carrying a scythe and wearing jandals! Not a good combination...
On Nov 5 there is usually a big fireworks display at the Viaduct. Although the year before last it was really foggy and no-one could see a thing. It is quite late in the evening though, as obviously they have to wait for it to be properly dark first.
There are laws here that restrict the sale of fireworks to a week or so before Nov 5 and then for a couple of days after. I don't personally know anyone that buys their own - most people either ignore it completely, or go to organised displays.

We haven't had anyone around for Haloween yet, don't think we'll get anyone out here as we're k's out of town.
We usually go to a friend's place for fireworks, ends up being a competition to see who can buy the best fireworks :exit
The kids think it's great however last year it ended up being an hour long of fireworks :D Some of them fell asleep towards the end.

Have to say I'll miss the Halloween I'm used to having this year. Halloween in NYC is, for the most part, great fun. The best part is seeing all imaginative costumes. Too lazy to do anything this year.
