Been looking for new rentals today, and seen loads of the right type of house in Dannemora.....but what is the area like? Does anyone else live around there? Is there much to do with pre-schoolers? Are the schools any good? Any info would be really helpful :)

We live right up the road, the schools are getting really good reputations, the oldest houses are about 10-15 yrs so plumbing should be fine ;), I have several friends that live there.
I quite fancy moving there myself.....
You have Botany shopping right up the road, and daycares a plenty (with waiting lists though) local primary as far as I know is Botany Primaray on Botany road, although there is a school on Baverstock now that I think is a primary too, its brand spanking new.
Its a bit samey compared to other areas of the city because the houses are newer and a bit more packed together, but you still get a reasonable size garden, off street parking and a garage.
There have been plenty of swing parks built in and you have chiipmunks just along the road, ice skating, a great Whitcoulls with an awesome kids area...
Anything else you want to know??
i suggest you have a drive around the area and spend time here and get a feel for the area... in fact come over here for coffee next week, Ill give you a tour......

How strange. The thread about marmite and my mate with the Twiglets thing I just responded to......
"Eh, what, you BBB nutter" I hear you all shouting, "what the dingbats is he on about now". Bear with me....
The mate was called Dan, his wife is called Mora. Hence Dannemora. See?
Spooky eh?

Not enough. Maybe it's marmite withdrawal symptoms.

Well we accidentally turned into part of Dannemora on our way back from the Bendon Outlet shop in East Tamaki. The houses look lovely and it is just as Sal said, close to Botany etc. I think the schools are supposed to be good too. Worth a look,

Bendon do indeed sell knickers.... there is a factory outlet up at West Gate....
Other place is Farmers, they do discount days/weeks and you generally get 30% off undies.... and they also stock Bendon.

I've been though Dannemora on a few occassions and it looks to me like a very nice neighbourhood, although it has the feel of a development because the many of the houses have the same design and they are quite closely settled by NZ standards. I would say the proximity to Botany Downs is a plus.
Funny thing though is that my father's family is from a town called Dannemora, New York and its a dumpy hick town known only for having the New York State Penitentiary, a huge prison with twenty foot high cement walls looming over the town. Whenever I tell my father I've been driving through the Dannemora neighbourhood in Auckland he gets a kick out of it.

akp that's funny story indeed about you driving around danne and your did got kick out of it. I could imagine...
Yes, Danne is nice...we even thinking of trying to get a house in that area...However, all of us work in the city and traffic jam has been one of the main issue to us.
Even though, I have heard that there will be a motorway from the eastern shores to the city. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Any idea how long it would take from Dannemora on the bus? OH also works in CBD.

Haven't been round the 'outlet' section of Westgate properly yet. Attempted to look, but after kids started pulling shoes of shelves in first shop we went in....I gave it up as a bad idea :(
Will have a look in farmers....usually we go straight past the clothes to look at the toys :roll

To the FamilyofMonkeys - it takes about 1 hour plus in rush hour to get to the CBD (Britomart) from the Botany shopping centre on the bus. The car journey is about 45 minutes.
