My family is moving to Auckland later this year. I'm a freelance graphic designer with more than 10 years of experience (mainly packaging). I would like to keep freelancing if possible in Auckland. Can anyone give me some advice on the fee people charge over there? Is it comparable to what we charge here in Melbourne? I deal directly with clients and don't do any work for agencies but will be opened to doing some of that if possibilities arise or maybe just to get my foot in the door. Also is it difficult to break into the market?
Any advice will be much appreciated!

Can't answer your question personally, but I know a man who knows a man etc.....

Assuming I remember after the long weekend I'll see if I can dig out a name and email address for you.

This is a graphic designer based in Hamilton. Not Auckland, but NZ is a small place, so I'm sure he'll have the word on the street for you fi he's in a friendly mood.

Hi turtle,

Again, I can't answer your question but I would expect to earn less in NZ due to it being such a small market.

Being in a similar type of creative career myself I have been checking out a few websites that you might find useful;
http://www.thepond.co.nz/home/ - this seems right up your street and they are looking for people at the moment.

Just to give you an idea of some small agencies and the numbers they employ http://www.admedia.co.nz/Indies.html

Other useful links http://www.admedia.co.nz/Links.asp

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Piper!
I will look them up.
Probably a good idea to find an agent perhaps?
