Any ideas where I can get these two things, but most particularly the former. I can get 'maple flavoured syrup' all over and my kids don't know the difference, but I really do. I want pure canadian maple syrup with nothing added ... any ideas?

A jam doughnut would make my husband happy as he misses them!

I found some REAL maple syrup in foodtown...in a small bottle alongside all the flavoured stuff....really cheesy name called O'Canada Maple Syrup. Not cheap at about $10 a bottle, but I snuck it in trolley and hoped OH wouldn't notice at the checkout :)

Haven't seen any jam doughnuts though :( .

We get O Canada at Countdown, too. There is a big Countdown in Napier, and I think I remember seeing one in Hastings as well.

I have seen maple syrup in either (or both?) Woolworths and New World in Wellington, you can get 1 liter bottles at moore willsons for around $30 so you can always stock up if you are visiting, sorry I can't help with Hawkes Bay!

I have also bought Maple syrup from Pak-n-Save. They have 2 different brands. I prefer Steve's. Good luck!

You can get maple syrup here in paknsave etc but it's not pure maple syrup... it's either part maple syrup in sugar syrup or golden syrup with flavourings.

Thanks for the doughnut tips ...I'll pass them on to S, who will be delighted :)

We bought Steve's Maple syrup from Pak 'n Save and the ingredients don't list any sugar syrup or golden syrup.

Might be worth asking them or checking other parts of the shop as when we found it, it wasn't with the maple syrup flavours.

Thanks Ian, I shall investigate Tuesday. Perhaps they've cleaned up their product since this was written about Steeves Maple Syrup then? (scroll down)

I brought O'Canada 250g pure maple syrup from Food town Browns bay yesterday and if i remember right it was about $8.50 about $1 more than the flavoured sugar syrup stuff and worth every penny this morning on my breakfast!.
OUr local baker does jam round doughnuts but that isn't going to help you much, sorry.

I've got a recipe for doughnuts for my breadmaker....but how do you get the jam in the middle?

Moorf

Syringe ... you can get them from baking section in supermarkets or in specialist shops.

Or, cut the end off a freezer bag or similar - make a hole in to the middle of the doughnut - and pipe it in....

Gonna have a look at my icing set later...think I might have a thin nozzle somewhere. Now just have to get fryer...saw mini one in Farmers recently, but OH said NO :(
So now I have a list of things to use one for & i'm working on him:
Doughnuts
Tempura vegetables
wontons
breaded mushrooms...

Pak 'n Save are now selling another brand of maple syrup.

Not sure if it's the o'Canada one that others are talking about, thought it's brand was 'Queen'?

Actually costs less than the 'Steves' at around $6, bottle states 100% maple syrup and the ingredients just state maple syrup, so looks like this is the one (assuming you can get it from all the stores?)
