Hi, my oh is a HGV driver, and has been looking at vacancies. He has seen that some want road ranger gear box experience and was wondering what one was?

He suspects it's a local term for a gear box He is familiar with.

If anyone knows it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Cath X

If you Google it, there is lots of info.

In short it's a 13,15 or 18 speed gearbox. It uses a 4 speed gate and a multiple speed transfer box. Sounds like a pig of a thing to use.

Hi Cathgates
The older trucks in Uk had similar gearbox. Tell your OH to imagine changing gear without the synchro in the gearbox that modern trucks have.
They are a pig to get used to and you take a few teeth off the gear cogs in the process.
If he knows about double de-clutching he will be ok.
I got used to it, having little experience of the gearbox in UK, but still don't like it!
Feel free to PM me with any questions about permits etc.

I was about to reply, but Steviec has covered it all basically, you'll find they are Eaton boxes, and the industry just love em, whereas us euro truckers just loathe them.:no
