I would like to say hello to one and all, and state that this forum is by far the friendliest, most helpful and the best i have found. We are the thomas family living in cheshire and hopefully due to move next april, to either Auckland of Wellington ( which job to accept). I visited the manchester Expo yesterday and couldn't help but feel an excited vibe in the air. It appears that we are not alone in wanting to move to such a beautiful part of the world. So many helpful people both from New Zealand and those visiting the Expo. It was wonderful to be around people with the same excited feelings and not the negativity that we have received from our parents. Mustn't ramble but i have to tell somebody that i am now getting excited as the reality is now slowly kicking in.....

Kind regards to all of you

Hello - another Cheshire-based forumite here. I was at the Expo too - I did wonder how many other people were there from the Forum, and who I may have bumped into.... apologies if I did, my bags were really heavy!

Welcome to the forum!

What line of work are you in? And how far are you with your migration?

Hi there, my line of work is in structural engineering, i have job offers in both Auckland and Wellington. My wife wants Auckland but i am leaning towards Wellington. Both companies have said that they will progress the visa/immigration side of things and all we have to do is provide the police reports and the medicals. The house in on the market with one (Sunday drive out, bored couple) veiwing with no real interest. We live just north of winsford and i commute to cheadle every day along those wonderful motorways. Set up a bank account at the expo and contacted one of the shippers for a rough quote. Job start date in march/april next year!!

Just seems a such a long way off.

Hi Woolfie and welcome. I do feel envious of Northerners and their EXPO's. There isn't any in my neck of the woods. Hope it all goes well for you.

Hi Woolfie, from a former Cheshire resident, and of course (still) a Chester City supporter (born in Tarporley, mum used to teach in Winsford).

Welcome to the friendliest 'emmigrate to NZ' forum that I know :D

Hi Woolfie

Welcome to the forum. Kev and I are in the preliminary stages of applying to relocate...fingers crossed!? I've only been tootling about on here for a couple of weeks but I've learned sooooooooooo much from the various posts/threads...everyone's been great! :raebanana

April does sound a fair way off but it'll come round soon enough. You'll be up to your eyeballs in sorting through your stuff, what to take, what not to take...catching up with family, sorting flights, accomodation! And from what I've seen so far....there are plenty of people on here that are in the middle of doing all that or have gone through it ...and they're all willing to share info, tips, reassurance!

Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly

Hi Woolfie,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your job offers :clap :clap, what a wonderful opportunity to be able to choose between the two ! I would think them taking care of the visa/immigration side of things is also a welcome luxury, takes away some of the stresses of the whole process :nice1.

Good luck with the process and house selling, fingers crossed a buyer will come along soon (don't forget to check out the massive "Anyone on the market" thread http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11887 for support) !

I'm commuting to Cheadle at the moment. Don't you just love the M60? At least I get to watch the planes fly overhead and dream...:)

i did look up once at the planes but some B*****D nearly knocked me off me bike, they were oblivious and did n't apologize. Is it me or is it getting busier the closer to xmas we get. Still no viewings on the house and both sets of parents are really being foul. My wifes parents had her in tears the other day, to the extent that she questioned the whole process of moving. I showed her some of the correspondances on this forum and it cheered her up. i must admit if it wasn't for this forum and all the lovely people on it, this would be a much harder battle that it already is... Its comforting to know that we aren't the only ones trying to live the life we want, not the life others want us to live.( if you know what i mean) and then be accused of being selfish.

everybody have a good weekend and i 4 1 am looking forward to my bottle of red.

Good luck with the move.

This forum has so much info on it it has been a godsend. It has also helped me put my OH's mind at rest too - for the most part! Still worried even though we've just booked the removals and flights!

Having a job offer really helps settle the mind and you're lucky enough to have 2!

again good luck with the process

Hi Woolfie,

This is a BIG issue with a number of 'formites'. I notice you mention it twice so it must be weighing heavy on your minds.
There are some very comforting and reassuring threads you could read through, you are not alone.
I think I'm going to make a note of them so I can readily access them when the emotional blackmail starts.
I have not said we are looking again yet to either parent sets, it will be grim any time.
Just think of the reasons why you need to go to NZ and go for it,

good luck :cheers

Hi Woolfie

Welcome to the forum. Would like to echo what everyone has said and say 'go for it'.

Have done a quick search for you and below is just one of the threads about the difficulties of telling parents you are emigrating. At the end of the day, it's your life and you have to live it for yourself and not other people. If you don't you will gradually come to resent them for not letting you go. All the very best of luck and I hope they come around soon.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, it kinda puts a spring in your step because apart from this forum you do feel isolated, with nobody to enjoy the excitement as we get things sorted...

Just wondering Mr Baldy Beardy Blokey, which school did your mum teach at. My two boys go to Over St Johns. they are looking to close this school and all the other little schools to create one large school....And also my wife works for the youth service working in and around tarporley . Such a small world....

kind regards

I haven't had much success watching planes from the car either. I can watch them out of the windows at work instead. They fly a bit too low sometimes. But the roads are definitely getting busier. I made the mistake of using M56/M6 today instead of my usual M60/M62/M6. Took 70 minutes to do a journey I can complete in 35 minutes when travelling off peak.
It doesn't help that petrol prices seem to be increasing every couple of days. Never mind, it all adds to the 'push' factors that will get us to NZ!

As for the family situation: fully relate to that too. Is your wife signed up to this forum? Either of you can PM me any time. Or I'll PM my email address.
