OK, we're new to the house-selling thing, and we've had 2 quotes for conveyancing the sale of 1 property. They were both a shade under £500. What on earth do they do for that money??? Are we being totally ripped off? Is this something that we could do for ourselves?

We paid about £390 for the selling of a 3 bed semi detached, and that was "mates rates" as we know the solicitor! So £500 does not sound far off the mark!!

Jane that sounds about right but there was a place in Liverpool that we used and they charged less. I will try to dig out the paper work to find their details.
