In planning for our trip in a few weeks, I'm wondering if it's worth hauling a carseat along...or do some car rental agencies provide them?

What's recommended for kids in NZ? At what age/weight/height do kids stop using them?

Are there airbags on the passenger side front seat? Shoulder belts in the back seat or only lap belts?

Here is the legal requirements. However if you have a european car seat, its perfectly legal to use it here, even though it doesnt have a tether strap to bolt it onto the boot.

Cars here are pretty much same as you are used to so, 2 proper seat belts in the back and most modern cars have passenger airbags.

I would assume most major rental companies will provide a car seat, although I prefer to use my own, as I know its histoty, but thats just the way I am! but have used rental seats from both Hertz and Europcar and been happy.

I have noticed in shops that car seats here do not seem to be as good quality or robust as ones available in UK now. Not to say there arn't decent ones, I just haven't seen many in shops here. We brought ours over with us for all 3 kids...a bit of a pain and bulky to travel with, but as JubJub said...I know their history.

I think your best bet is to look at the car safety site I posted up above, or to ring your local Plunket car seat hire place (the link for that has been posted too up there...), they are not just there to hire car seats, they also give advice on how to fit them too, so they would be able to tell you.

Not sure I know what you mean, do you mean a child in a booster seat in a car seat that is facing the rear in the car?

A rear facing seat in the car is actually a very safe place, and with the appropriate child seat not a problem to use.

for campervan's seat as one we are interesting, got two seat facing rear. Managed to find information and there has been suggests that child under 5 should be ideal facing rear in the car anyway, like sweden doing it:o
So I will put my both oldest children in their own car seats on the rear facing seat while put baby and myself on front facing seats, that save huge problem on finding campervan will take three car seat after airbag problems!! phew!:raebanana
