I've searched for an answer to this, but can someone please confirm it. I get confused because when people talk about videos some people are refering to tapes, others to machines.
There are machines available in NZ that will play a video tape and copy it to a DVD disc. Will I be able to insert a UK video tape into this, transfer it to a DVD disc then play it in another DVD machine bought in NZ?
Sorry to be so pedantic. My wife is still stuck in the UK, I've been down here 7 months now. She's having a hard time and is threatening to spend her first 6 months down here watching all her videos. Me? I'm just having to make the most of things!

Where can you get one of those machines? I have one remaining VHS Video left that I cannot play. Have been hoping to find some way to get it onto a DVD.....is there some shop you can get this done?

I've seen machines in all major stores, about $400. Don't know who does it commercially, but if I get one you're most welcome to pop round, Eastern Beach.

UK VHS tapes play here just fine, they have no region codes like DVDs (we have lots of old UK ones). Once the DVD has been burnt it should play almost anywhere, I can't imagine it would have a region code added by the copier.

The VHS tapes from the UK and NZ are both recorded using the same format (PAL). It is the playback that would be important i.e. if you played it on a UK Video player then it would be in PAL I and if you played it on a NZ Video player it would be PAL B/G (assuming through RF).
So, you should have no problem if you buy a dual VHS / DVD recorder in NZ to copy from a UK tape to a DVD for use in NZ.
If you want to copy a commercial VHS recording (that is protected) then you may have problems as they will will not allow them to be copied to DVD.
It should also be noted that not all DVD discs that have been recorded on one device will be readable on another device especially from a different manufacturer. Different disc brands have different characteristics so you may need to experiment to find one that is compatible.
