At the moment we tend to buy most of our fruit and veg in the supermarket as it would cost us more in petrol for extra journey than we would save to go to a fruit and veg shop. But last week choice in supermarket was sooo poor, wondering if it is worth going elsewhere. So where does everyone else get theirs?

as I see you are out in West Auckland, why dont you head over to Kumeu area once in a while to stock up at the fruit and veggie roadside markets there, things are much cheaper and if you are looking to buy in bulk, (for preserving etc) you get some great deals.

We sometimes buy in supermarket, particularly if it's the middle of the week, as it's more convenient. On weekends we go to a local fruit and veg shop, Vege King. People come from all over to Hamilton to Vege King such is it's reputation. There's also a farmers market on a Sunday morning on the Wintec car park site.

Yes, it is definitely worth going to a vege shop. There are a lot around so you should be able to find one close to you. (Not sure which suburb you're in.) Also Asian supermarkets often have good veg.

Also you might try the Avondale market at the racecourse on Sunday mornings if you're on that side of town, there's a lot of cheap local produce there.

We mainly go to vege shop and markets, more choice and cheaper.

I usually buy at the supermarket as it is all I can do to get there let alone there and a vege store. With that said I do go on occassion. I shop either at the pak n save in albany or the foodtown in Takapuna. Frankly, I find the produce at the pak-n-save to be very good and not that much more than the vege shop and often the quality is better. The produce at the Foodtown is only ok.

I might have to try pack-n-save and see how fresh stuff compares. Not sure how stressful it would be trying to drag the sprogs round a veggie shop.....there are plenty around, but they are not open late in evening, which is when we tend to do shopping as kids (should be :o ) fast asleep in bed.

Try the vegie shops on Hobsonville Road. There's a few along there, we use Passion Produce mostly. Cheaper and better quality than Countdown usually. :nice1

Is that the one next to the place selling all the palm trees?

No, the next one along as you head towards Westgate. But the one with the palms is ok too. :nice1
