Hello, has anyone had any issues with medical approval from NZ's medical assessors regarding having Bi-polar 2 disorder ? My wifes medical cert. was forwarded to the assessor but I haven't found anyone on the forums yet with the same issue or similar. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thankyou

Might surprise a few people to know that I'm bi-polar and have been since diagnosed late teens. I've had various treatments along the way with the usual crashes and problems. I did worry about this regarding emigration application and laid it on the line but nothing was made of it, no extra tests or referrals. Really sorry to hear it's causing you and your wife problems - feel free to PM me or I'm happy to discuss openly if it helps someone.

Thankyou for the encouraging words. So far all that I believe is happening is that the officer at the High commission in Canada can't make the final decision without support from a medical assessor. We are hoping to get a final answer this week.
Thx again

Hello again. Its coming up to 3 weeks now and still no reply from the High Commission regarding my wifes medical cert. The timing of this glitch has really put our family on its ear. (Excuse my Venting) In regards to selling our house, continuity with the kids schooling etc. We probably can't sell our house until the spring now, will add to our expenses in the event we do move to NZ. All tentative moving dates and my job starting date will have to be moved if we don't hear this week. This is definately one of the most frustrating processes I have had to go through. Excuse the venting....
I would like to know if anyone has had similiar waiting times with NZ Medical Assessors ? Any feedback would be appreciated...
Thx

Hello There,
The frustration is a must and is understandable. My case was referred to Medical Assessor because i had abnormal Liver Function Tests (LFTs). It took exactly 3 weeks and on the Thursday of the 3rd week i got an email from my case officer that the Medical Assessor requires a repeat of the LFTs and another test. (Why i mentioned 'Thursday'? Case Officer told me that they receive reports/responses from Med Ass in NZ on Thursdays of every week)
Had to go back to the same panel doctor, got the tests done again, and sent the reports back within 3 days. Its been two weeks since i have heard from them. I am hoping to get some news tomorrow i.e. Thursday.
Therefore, from my limited experience, once anything has been referred to these Assessors, it takes exactly 3 weeks for them to get back to you (via the CO) and the total delay can be anywhere between 5-6 weeks depending upon whether they ask for further tests or not. (80 % of the times they do).
One thing that you may try if the panel doctor is accessible. Now that you know the problem with your medical (i really don't know about this bipolar disorder), you may approach your doctor and ask him if there are any further tests that he can recommend and IF the results for them are OK, if he can write a letter to the NZIS stating that the disorder is not of serious nature and can be cured by regular medication..... something like that. (CO suggested me this although the panel doctor refused to give such letter without any further test requests from NZIS).
Hope this helps.
