Kia ora and Hi everybody!!
I was long thinking about should I post it or not: promoting our place here in the forum. I'm not sure if I am allowed to offer our house in the forum. Please remove this post if it is against forum rules!
But I thought maybe somebody is exactly looking for something like this!
Our little paradise is just 1 hour north of Auckland close to Wellsford, just 2 minutes off SH1. You can easily commute to Auckland for work as my husband does. We spent 5 happy years here, learning all sorts of "farming". Now we are so infected by farm work that we, well .... I want to buy a proper farm further up north in Kaitaia. Hubby still has to get the money for it. He is happy with it as long as I do all the work.
We started here as "townies”. Knowing nothing.... We bought this place with having only a look at the house. We fell in love with the loop driveway, the big palm trees...
When we signed the contract the previous owner was surprised that we haven’t seen the chook house, the little patch of native bush, the sheds, paddocks and everything what is important for farming and that we still bought the place. As I said, we were townies.:D
Today I know more. I know that there were practically no proper fences, no good drainage, weeds everywhere, too many huge Macrocarpa trees; the condition of the driveway was very poor... BUT we wanted this property and we got it!
This was five years ago. We have done a lot of work to the property, we removed 85 huge Macrocarpas, fertilized the property with lime and Organic Mineral fertilizer, removed the bamboo, all fences and gates are new, the driveway got plenty of new lime on it. This is now a property you can move in and enjoy. It is farmed using organic principles. You can find it at the NZ Herald webpage:

The neighbours are very helpful. When I want a good laugh I stop at the top of the hill. An old Scottish couple lives there, she is so funny! You have tears in your eyes and your stomach hurts from laughing! The farmer next door has dry stock; it was a dairy farm before he bought it just a year ago. I enjoyed working on the dairy farm, where I did fall in love with the Jersey cows (they are so cute); this was the place I got infected with farming. Our next door neighbour owns the local liquor shop (that’s handy too).
In Te Hana they started to build a big tourist attraction, a Maori village with shops, a hotel and lots of other amenities. This will put up the value of properties in this area.
You can go there and join the local flax weavers, learn how to make tukutuku, the wall covers in the marae, make your own ketes (bags), and much more. The Northtec offers FREE horticulture and carving classes there. I have done the agriculture one. I can only recommend all off them, great experience.
Got you interested???? Please feel free to ask questions or pop in when driving up north! When you are lucky you will get a tea:( or some homebrew :cheers(it is really good!) Stout, Wheat or pale ale or some fruit wine.
We try to be as much self sufficient as possible, we make our own cheese, our own bread, veggies and fruit from the garden, meat from the paddock:clap.
Cheers
Lilo
