Has anyone used/heard of smooth movers for local moves. They have given us very reasonably hourly rate for local move, and happened to mention that they were part of TV3 programme recently and were rated very well. Was just wondering if it was all for show, or are they actually any good?

We also looked at Crown due to good reputation, but they charge $180 per hour, and Allied Pickfords are not alot less. Don't want to use a cheap man with van thing as they are not always fully insured if they break anything.

No experience of moving over here yet, but I think they are on about the TV show Target, they did this expose thing on removals. Maybe worth a look on TV 3 website to see if there is a report there about it?

We needed 'a man with a van' to move our king size mattress from rental property to new home and ended up using Smooth Movers. The chap came out on a Sunday to do it for us and charged us $50 so not exactly cheap for what was not a great deal of work. However we figured it was reasonable given he was doing it on a Sunday and he did exactly as he said he would - called OH on his mobile when he was on his way and did the job between the hours he said he would. Also was a 'nice' bloke - typical Kiwi really - chatty, friendly etc.

Good luck,
Anneliese

That is good to hear coz i've just booked them for our move :) . They were almost half the price of the other companies i've contacted and from what I gather from TV3 website, they seem reputable. Unfortunately we don't have TV connected here at the moment, so i'll end up missing the TV programme they feature in.

I called the Moving Company and Auckland AA movers and got 2 drastically different quotes...3050 vs 1380! So I have called Smooth Movers to come by...I am worried that the AA company is the one from TV3 and it doesn't seem like they got good marks....

I wouldn't touch the Moving Company with a barge-pole. Turned out they were the partner company of John Masons, so when our stuff arrived from UK we had them. They were really not at all careful with our stuff and lost some too ...Fridge Freezer (wtf....how can you loose something SO big) boxes of CD's and DVD's ?????.....which did turn up in the end when we made a BIG fuss..... We had several items damaged, and from the way I saw them handling our stuff, I am quite surprised there wasn't more damage. I beleive they also got slated on the TV programme along with Crown (who have a great UK reputation).

Thanks for the feedback FOM! Another forumite recommended them as they had a good experience but considering they are almost twice as expensive as the other one, we won't be using them. I am waiting for Smooth to come bid...when is your move?

Just wanted to report on our move. Smooth movers were excellent......would reccommend them to anyone doing a local move. They turned up on time, took very good care of our stuff and got on with the job....no slacking. they were also polite and helpful. Also, their hourly rate was considerably less than all of the other companies that we had quotes from. If anyone wants their details, PM me!

I tried to get them to give me a quote and after 4 days in a row of the guy saying he would come and didn't, I gave up. So, I am glad things went well for you. We used AA Auckland carriers. They packed one day and the packers were good. The loaded another day, drove to Tauranaga and unloaded in the same day. Both days they showed up later than I was told but everything got done so no big deal. One of the loading crew was a bit iffy and told me he was out drinking all night but nothing was damaged or broken. AND they were way cheaper...less than 1750 for packing and moving from Auckland to Tauranga
