Now then, we all know you need a job offer to get enough points to apply for the skilled migrant catagory and then apply for a work permit/visa/permanent residency but some employers say you need the latter before the former. How to we get round this? Keep applying for jobs, yes? But what if the employer states that you can only apply if you already are a NZ citizen and refuses to believe NZIM who state the opposite?
In this case, its the Department of Conservation who are telling us that OH can't even apply for a job unless he is a NZ resident, yet NZIM have said fine , go ahead and apply. Will DoC simply refuse to look at his application? They reply to my emails by simply sending the original statement again!

I had a similar thing when I applied for a job with Chch City council. I had an open work permit because OH was the main applicant and when he got his I got mine. However, when I phoned to apply the chap told me (very nicely I might add:) ) that I had to have PR to apply. It seems to me that maybe certain positions are only available to people with PR or citizenship. Thats not very helpful to you guys though if your OH is the main applicant, and unfortunately I don't know of a way round it:no

Dept. of Conservation have come back to me and said because they are a state dept. they can't be seen to be putting pressure on another state dept. ie immigration. And that 's that,; if you don't have residency you cannot apply for any of their jobs!
