Just wondering if there is any reasonable way to get a NZ phone number before we arrive. I ask because the pet quarantine wants the doggies to have tags with their names and a phone to contact us. A bit hard to do before we are there with the dogs flying out around the same time we are.

Anyone with experience on this?

We're the type of people that have a mobile as our only phone here, so we'll be getting one of those to start.

maybe someone from that area can buy you a sim card if you send them the money.

We have VOIP service through Net Zero and have a plan that includes unlimited calls to the U.S., if you like you could give them our tel# here in NZ and we could call you in the U.S. to pass on any messages, if that works for you just PM me your name and tel# and I will respond with ours.

You can get a Vodafone prepaid SIM card from Telestial in San Diego (http://www.telestial.com/view_product.php?PRODUCT_ID=LSIM-NZ01) assuming you have a GSM phone capable of running on 900Mhz.

Shouldn't be a problem - try an internet search for NZ sim cards. As long as you have an unlocked phone, you can use any SIM card you like. As JDBob mentioned, vodafone is the most common provider.

Thanks for the information. We aren't flying us or the dogs out for some months yet, but before the dogs fly would like to have them some tags made up with the contact numbers.
I just pre-plan (extremely!!) to keep myself busy. :laugh
