I've managed to get a VC Interview lined up - yay! First problem is to find somewhere to hold the interview, so I've asked a few local hotels / conference centres for quotes & availability. How much shoud I expect to pay for an hour of VC usage do you think? It MUST be cheaper than a flight to NZ :yes
My main question though, can anyone please tell me if NZ interviews are structured any differently to UK Interviews? I have been contracting for 9 years and have had a lot of interviews, so I am confident about my technique in general. I've been advised by the agent that it will be a formal, structured interview, and wondered if anyone could give me feedback on what to expect?
All comments welcome!
Thanks,
Jane

I just came out of mine in Birmingham. Google video conferencing centre and you get a selection of venues. Why do you have to book it? Mine was booked and paid for by NZ.

Hi Lockstock.
They haven't offered to book, just asked me to make the arrangements at this end.
How did yours go?

My Oh had interview this way and was asked to organise but when he went back to employer with possible details they checked with their own providers in NZ then booked and paid for it from them. I think it's worth asking about cos wouldn't be expect you to pay to be interviewed
Best of luck with it all :)
Karen
P.S. OH did the interview you can PM if you want more details about how it went

best of luck.
i had a vc about 3 weeks ago - same sort of interview type as here really - one person from HR, a chairperson and a technical guy. there was a slight delay in the link which made for some amusing moments - its the sound thats delayed not the picture ...
i had to arrange and pay for it here myself

Good luck Jane! What field are you in? I am hoping that my OH will be able to line up som VC interviews and spare him ( and us!) the cost of trip to NZ!

Good luck Jane - go for it and don't try to interrupt too much 'cos the time delay makes your head go funny!!

Thanks Lockstock.
I think this is what I will find most difficult, as I've struggled to cope with the delay on phone calls so far! My naturally inquisitive nature makes me ask lots of questions....

Phew - glad that's over!
I always find interviews draining, and this one was harder work than usual - isn't it difficult maintaining eye contact on a VC!!! I tried to use the time delay to phrase my answers, but ended up babbling a bit to fill the gaps. They have promised to let me know by the end of the week. If I have any fingernails left by then...
I think technically I was fine. I stumbled a bit on the HR questions (I'm not used to HR-type interviews), but they seemed mainly concerned about the suitability of me taking a permanent job after contracting so long (9 years).
So we'll see......

Jane - I think you will be fine! My OH is an NHS manager - but tied to a contract for another 6 months or so. I am itching to get started though!
