I've just found out that Quorn products are not sold in NZ, and am now in two minds about moving!
Seriously though, can anyone recommend any similar products to Quorn?
Thanks

there are vegie products on sale, not that I pay much attention, if you eat fish you will be in heaven from the choice.
I am sure a vegie will reply with a more detailed list, but you could also try making food yourself, nut loaf etc.

Quorn is not available, nor is it likely to be as I contacted the company and they have no intention of trying to break into the market here.
The Sanitarium company (who make Weetbix etc.) do some stuff, like the bacon rashers. My kids love them and they are the nearest thing to the Quorn product.

You can get other stuff though, but if you into the processed Quorn stuff you will be disappointed. But, as Kat said, if you eat fish you will be delighted here :nice1
There is a lot of seasonal veg here if you like to go it alone without the processed side. It is just one of those things, until the NZ vegetarian market has the punch of bigger markets, don't expect to see Quorn arriving in the near future.
Hope this helps?

Hmmm I maybe wrong but I have heard from someone that Tesco is apparently buying Woolworths out, and that they are going to be getting Quorn in the near future ?!
Like I say, can't guarantee that what the person said is right, and going by the above comment - probably not !
But, this veggie lives on in hope !!;)

Thanks for the info - I had contacted Marlow Foods yesterday and while they are expanding into other countries, Aus and NZ are not on their schedule.
I think I just may have to think differently and consider eating more fish and maybe even meat! Is there much organic meat (chicken) around? Latest evidence report from Department of Health says that red meat increases the risk of cancer, and are recommending that we have less red meat our diets - no that this is new, what is new is evidence based diet advice for cancer prevention.

i think i read somewhere that Australias food regulators had a bit of an issue with it. due to the very small but serious reaction some pople have to it. as a veggie i miss quorn but there are alternatives so dont worry theres veggie suasages and burgers, the sausages are better than quorn ones! but its still not as wide a range as uk,

To replace Quorn mince just buy 'tempeh' and grate. It's available from most supermarkets, pretty much all healthfood shops and is about a billion times better for you and way tastier. It has a more robust texture than flacid Quorn and makes fab chilis, lasagne's etc, etc.
It's made from whole soya beans so is packed full of top notch protein too :clap

Gotta agree with that one! Some flavours are even nicer than the Cauldron Food ones we used to get in the UK!
And whats all this business about fish....if you eat fish, then you're not a vegetarian :D

Try the Bean Supreme sausages....nearest thing to Cauldron here, and several tasty flavours.

oooo we got lamb:nice1
Health food shops (seems to be one in every mall) sell this stuff appetisingly called Lotus Textured Soy Protein, its dried and sort of looks like gravel. You re-hydrate it, then use it like mice.
Once you have re-hydrated your gravel looking, Lotus Textured Protein (YUMMY eh), as I said before you use it just like mince.
Joking aside its actually nice, it costs about $4 for 200g, but its dried so it does go a long way.
Me I’m just munching my way through lambs, pigs and almost anything you can pull out of the sea, but I do like this stuff, wifey cooks it for me. I know she experimented a lot to find an alternative to quorn, and this is her favourite. (oh it says GMO free on the pack and has this website http://www.anzhd.com/kadac/ )

Sorry Bob, couldn't help commenting on that typo. The thought of trying to get mice into a shepherd's pie made me laugh. Thanks for the tip, though - I'll look out for this.

seriously this made me laugh - if you're a vegetarian then there are plenty of really fresh vegetables here in NZ. If you eat fish then you'll be in heaven - the fish here is the best around - try Warehou or Tarakihi - yum !
The wifes a vegetarian and she used to eat Quorn in UK. The vege products out here in NZ are terrible ( according to her ). Best thing to do is get good at cooking and make yourself some nice vege recipies - thats what the wife has done !
Why have processed junk when you can eat fresh food ?

My wife and I were veggies for many years in the UK. When we moved here the range of products was awful (Bin Inn does dried soya mince, that gave me turbo trousers). The cattle here are all vegetarian (unlike the ones in the UK!!) so I eat them now instead.
The fish here is wonderful, but about 4-5x the price of beef mince.

Had a mate that serviced equipment in food processing plants, one thing differentiated a Quorn factory from all the others, they never had a problem with rodents. Evidently it doesn't have any nutritional value, so the rodents don't touch it.

After seeing several studies on this topic, it will be worth exploring the alternatives (as some on this thread have mentioned). If not on ethical ground, people will be motivated by selfish reasons to go vegetarian.

What worries me about Quorn is that both my cats absolultely love Quorn, but my dog (who normally eats anything) and my chickens (who also devour anything put in front of them) will not eat the stuff.
Do find this a bit worrying - is there something they know that us veggie humans and cats (who aren't veggies) don't?????

The report that Stu70 has sent a link to is debunked here
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,307458,00.html
the report mostly complains about fat and cancer and then throws in some links to meat and drink. There are plenty of fat vegetarians out there that are likely to die before a medium sized meat eater.

You are right, smoking also does not cause cancer, it is just a theory isn't it? Cheers.

Sorry did you even read the article? It is attacking the conclusions based on very poor statistics gathering methods and results.
100% of people who die of cancer have drunk water at some stage in thier lives..... proof positive that water causes cancer?
The cause effect analysis of the report is horribly flawed, unlike the ones pertaining to smoking and cancer.

no Quorn...... :uhoh We do most of our cooking from scratch but for those occasions when you really fancy a burger bap nothing beats a bramley quorn burger with chilli sauce and salad.
