I have very kindly been invited to stay for a few days at the home of my NZ future employer with his wife and family while I am checking out Christchurch and my future job, etc.

I feel I should bring them a gift from the UK - does anyone have any suggestions?

Already suggested has been a bottle of English wine - joke, surely - or a bottle of Scotch - but not everybody drinks whiskey. Or English wine, come to think of it! :cheers

Apparently there are some pretty good English wines/bubbly around these days but I'm afraid I can't recommend any. I'm sure I read somewhere that due to Global Warming England was getting suitable growing conditions more consistently.. but I digress.

Given you are in London could you get to Harrods and get a Harrods t-towel, Harrods branded T-bags or coffee, Harrods branded anything really? Dependent on the ages (& sexes) of their children how about a toy London Bus or Black Cab? Bettys in Harrogate is a bit of a Yorkshire institution and I know they have a website but your future boss might not of heard of it. How about a calendar with British Countryside pictures on it or a book about Britain?

If I can think of anything else I'll let you know.

Bettys tearooms do mail order too, so you could always order a gift/very yummy cake etc if you don't want to take something in your suitcase.

Thank you everybody - I actually do have a great book of photos of Britain that I never look at myself so that can squeeze in my suitcase. The Yorkshire teabags seem to be a popular idea so I'll take some of them too.

Thanks again....
