My parents are landing on the 28th Novemebr up in Auckalnd, they want a hotel/motel for two nights then they are going to hire a car and have a drive around Northland before driving down to Palmy and leaving the hire car here at the airport (they have only found Hertz will allow them to do this - so if anyone has suggestions of another company who will allow the ar to be left at Palmy airport please post a link!)
So can anyone suggest a nice (but not too expensive!) hotel or motel in Auckland - not necessarily the centre, just somewhere nice, and also a few things for them to do up there.

The rooms are excellent, the security is second to none, and the profits go to charity. Book early though they get full very quickly.

Hi Marcia,
Don't know if you've found anywhere for them yet, but I was out walking with kids/dog this morning and thought you might like a look at http://www.waterfrontchalets.co.nz/
There are buses to town and Botany, Half Moon Bay Ferry to town too (more fun :yes), Howick Historical Village, nice local beachfront cafes/ restaurants, lovely walks and if they hire a car from here, anywhere is reasonable access.

Hi, here is where I spent my first nights in NZ. Decent Motel, very clean and very friendly staff. Good sized spotless rooms, quite a reasonable price especially if booked early enough. Full kitchen, hob/ oven/ fridge/ sink, although this is quite commom for Motel accomodation in NZ. Not the personal touch of a small B and B but its only for two nights. I go past it every day to work and would recommend it to anyone. Situated close to the modern Botany areas and easy to find with shopping centres. Handy for Western Springs and Waikeraka Park Speedway!
