Some friends of ours are useing an agency to migrate to NZ ,they do all the paper work etc even find you jobs ! But they are very expensive , just wondering has anyone used them ? or are they a ripoff . Considering migrating our selves,so not sure to use one or not, what do you reckon ??

Hi Tilly and welcome to the forum. I think the general view is that agencies are really an expensive luxury and you will find just about anything you need to know on this forum -and all for nothing! No doubt some have used an agency and are glad they did, but I think the majority of people have done it by themselves as we did.

We did everything ourselves, and had no problems, I think agencies are expensive. Just give yourself enough time to complete the process as time constraints can cause stress.:)

The immigration process does seem daunting for a newbie & I think people have used expensive agencies to make them feel more secure. We came close but luckily came across this forum & they helped every step of the way. FREE!!!!! Remember, it might be a same again question for us but for you it's the first time. Lots of experienced people here. So what do you want to know? Oh & welcome.

DIY!!!!:D
The agengies only fill in the forms using the information you supply them with, and the promises of getting jobs for you can turn out expensive as well as some of them expect to take a commission from your wages for a couple of years.
Unless you have a really complicated application, I'd give it a go yourself, the EOI does look scary at first (i can remember thinking we needed someone to do it for us!) But just work through it step by step and if you get stuck ask on here, someone usually comes along that can help.
Good luck!

My impression is that they are a rip off. Plenty of people here who do it themselves. Also some people here who started with an agency, were frustrated that they still ended up doing much of the work, and had less in their pocket at the end of the day.

Take a look @
?? NZIS closed in December, on this forum...
It's a perfect example of why you don't need an agent.
Needless to say, it's not, by the way.
