If you apply for emigration under the skilled visa route as a teacher but without a job offer > I have been told that you must take up a job as a teacher once arriving in NZ , what are the rules regarding this?

what is to stop this :
my wife is a teacher and could apply and get us accepted but once there we would preffer she was at home whilst i work. (we have a young child and are considering another)

would she HAVE to work? is there a time period that she would have to work for before leaving ?
and would her job have to be full time or could it be supply/relief teaching.

If you have a job offer and are claiming it for points you need to work for 3 months.
You can, however, submit the EOI (Expression of interest for skilled migrants) without a job offer if you have enough points.
You need at least 100 points to be able to apply via the EOI.
Currently 140+ points is automatically selected from the pool. In addition, applicants claiming points for skills on the long term skill shortage list or job offers but who are below 140 points are also regularly selected.

After that, if there is room to select more people they do so. Lately the selections have been picking people down to and including 115 points.

So no, she wouldn't have to work if she got in without a job offer and even if she did would only have to work for 3 months.

Hope that helps.
