Hi All,

I've an interview for a job in Blenheim, does anyone live there or know anything about the area?

Thanks

Andy

I visited Blenheim for a couple of days when we were in NZ last January. It seemed like a nice small town with a cute downtown area, a few nice shops, restaurants, a movie theatre, etc. The main attraction (at least for me) was that it is the center of Marlborough wine country so there are beautiful vineyards in all directions. I rented a bike there and rode around some of the country roads and it was really beautiful ... weather was outstanding at least for those few days. It's very close to Nelson, which I did not visit, but that is also supposed to be a nice place to live.

PM Phil and Lil (forum members) they live in Blenheim and I'm sure they will be glad to help.

It is a very nice part of the country -- lots of sun and vineyards. In general, though, there are not a lot of people or modern amenities anywhere in the South Island. It's also one of the main stops before Picton and people often stop overnight in Blenheim because they have just come off the ferry. You would be very wise to have a motel booked well in advance.
Good luck!

 I agree with the 'not a lot of people' bit but modern amenities? Don't think us SI folks are missing out on too much but then perhaps I'm happy to be old fashioned.:yes

Good day Andy

We moved to Marlborough a year and half ago and after two years in Auckland, this is the picture of New Zealand we were looking for before emigrated.

We have a wonderful outdoors lifestyle, both work in the wine industry, we could afford to buy a house here, spend our free time, fishing, horse riding, scuba diving, trekking or just chilling out with a beautiful bottle of wine watching the sunset over the Wairau valley. It's bliss here!

But do not expect "big city" attractions, Blenheim is pleasant enough but has limited shopping and night out options.

Agree, we're pretty civilised you know... :roll that's a bit of a generalistic and uneducated response tbh.

Blenheim is a wonderful place, it's where we hope to retire to when the time comes :clap :clap !

Thanks for the replies guys, I've had the interview which seemed to go OK and they have spoken to my referee this week and they told him that they would be contacting me soon, so with any luck we may be winging our way down to Blenheim in the new year.

And Hi beachcombers, certainly sounds pretty good to me and we're quite happy that it's quiet without big city attractions (I've never found big cities attractive anyway:D ) and as for night out options, they're limited for us any way as we have a 2 year old and another due in Feb. so the sunset and a bottle of wine it is then, cool!

Thanks again

Andy
