Can anyone recommend any good companies for contents insurance in NZ? My stuff is (hopefully!) arriving from the UK in 2 - 4 weeks and I'd really like to have a good policy in place before then. I have no idea about insurance policies here in NZ, and am too googled out to search for myself (goodness, emigrating makes you realise how much of the things you know are so specific to where you come from - I feel like an idiot here!)
Also, can anyone recommend a good company for landlord's contents insurance for rented properties in the UK? I really must sort this out, too!
Thanks in advance for any help.

I compared ASB, State, and AMI for both auto and contents.
All were recommended by locals.
All (of the three) give multiple account discounts of about 10%.
For my situation, ASB was lowest cost.
(I also priced AA and Toyota for the auto.)
Cheers,
Nathan

Hi
In NZ we use AMI, one reason apart from the quote they have an office here in Cambridge.
As for the UK for rental properties we have used Nationwide and at the moment we use NFU Mutual.

As Nathan says, shop around for the best quote (for us AMI were the cheapest).
Here's another one worth trying AA Insurance (http://www.aa.co.nz/insurance/Pages/default.aspx) (they don't just do car insurance, you need to scroll down to see the house insurance)

We used ASB and we now use State. You do seem to get a better deal if you have more than one policy with a company, so even if one place is more expensive than another for car insurance, by the time you have the bulk discount and maybe a lower quiote for contents, you get a cheaper deal at the end.

We're with AMI and we're quite happy about them. We had a theft from a car (a day after taking out contents insurance!!!) and they paid much of the loss (instead of writing out a cheque they took a lot of time to find similar replacement items, not sure if it is a common practice with other insurance companies, but it surely took ages!!!). We're anyhow happy that they paid up!

State for us. Cheaper than anyone else, even before the bulk discount.....:nice1
