Thanks for your PM (I thought best to post here for any other deaf person about it query too)
Yep I am hearing impaired with average of 110 db loss (profoundly) both ears with fully speech languages and never used sign languages at all, just like your daughter.
I have found no restriction at all coming to NZ at all. I just let them know about my deaf in the form, so they are fully aware.
I don't think she will have any problems getting into NZ as along that she prove that she is independent with her disability.
Something I need to raise about living in NZ compare with UK (I know you are from SA, but not sure what support you get) is there is no "free" batteries, ear moulds or new hearing aids to replace, all have to be pay for by yourself. To get new batteries etc, you will need to go to hearing shop, not hospital. UK Minicom/textphone doesn't work in NZ! Not sure about SA or USA, you need to find out. You can get minicom on loan from Telecom or free if you are on low wages ;)
There is no disbility benefits as well, that didn't bother me as I never had one in UK..
My 3rd child was born in NZ 9 weeks ago and last week, on my request as my first two had their test in UK, he had his first hearing test and will be retest again in 3 months time. This was done at hospital.
For school support, I don't know about this as I have left school years ago!! :p I know there are deaf schools in NZ but also there is "hearing unit" - a small deaf school based in mainstream school, but children attend mainstream classes. I don't know about fully mainstream education like I had in UK.
Where about in NZ are you plan to move to? and what is your daughter's plan in NZ, uni or work?
