Just a quickie :D

I left an External Hard Drive for my PC at home with my brother back home, as it has about 12years worth of photos on it and about 8000 music tracks.
Now i feel settled etc, i am wanting my pics and music here, so my brother is going to post it over this week to me.

Now he never even sent a parcel in UK before let along to NZ :roll
So i wanted to know what if any paperwork needs to be done? I am going to get him to post it by "Airsure" so its safe and secure, but i know when i used to buy things on ebay from overseas they all had Customs stickers etc on them? Do i need to get my brother to find one of these customs forms and stick it on? Or do good old Royal Mail (ah i miss them.....) sort that bit out for you?

Thanks all, hope a hard drive in the post is going to be ok, and not upset customs or port authorities? !

When your brother takes the parcel to the post office, they will give him the customs form to complete and stick onto the parcel. It will have to say what the parcel contains and the value of the item.

Not sure about the customs implications. As it's your own hard disk and you have PR as far as I am aware you shouldn't have to pay duty, but I'm not sure how you go about proving this for items through the post - I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to help, though.

Hi mate,
I don't see that there is any customs issue, what's the value of a used hard drive? (other than sentimental value of it contents) If asked just state personal effects or gift, value $50 etc.
However I would certainly made sure it was backed up, prior to sending it by mail. It goes without saying that it requires plenty of bubble wrap and a small strong box, in order to survive.
Best of luck:nice1

Thanks guys and gals..

Sadly james i cant really get it backed up for couple reasons:
-Its a mac os disk, no friends or family in UK have a Mac
-My brother wouldnt have any idea what the drive was let alone how to back it up!
-Its 250gb and full! Dont know anyone with that space either.
And yes i know i should have backed up the disk before i left, silly and i am still kicking myself for not doing it, in fact still kicking myself for not even bringing it with me in my luggage, but hindsights wonderful eh?

Cool, i get it sent over by AIrsure, which hopefully means it will be safe and ok..
