My curiosity (noseyness) has the better of me.
I have noticed that a fair number of forum members are in IT in one way or another. I Thought it would be interesting to find out what line of work, if any, everyone is involved in.
I am a Painter/decorator for my sins, and my wife Sarah is senior care assistant for Bupa.

I thought maybe I should qualify the above by pointing out that the type of "artist" that I would be considered does NOT use a brush and pallette.
I mainly work in the medium of Jack Daniels.

you've tasted lumpia? good! which do you prefer, with or without wrapper? fried or fresh? lumpia ubod, shanghai, tuna, vegetable? okay, i'll cook you a potful when i get there. if you find me beautiful too and you like my lumpia, then we'll be in business
where did you taste this?

diny, my friend! lumpia is a filipino dish that's actuallly a mixture of either chopped veggies or meat wrapped in egg roll (in american chinese restos they call it egg rolls, but there's a difference) or if you prefer no wrapper, with thick sauce (ala gravy) and lots of ground peanuts and chopped garlic on top. the usual is made of vegetables. but you can also make lumpia shanghai (ground pork) in sweet sour sauce, or tuna lumpia (tuna meat instead of pork), or lumpia ubod (using the young sprout of coconut).

happy cooking!

Andy - teacher, just about to start work here.

How do you get to be a trainee at Met service? Sounds like a brilliant job.

I'm actually on a years sabbatical, so if we can manage OK on 1 salary I will be a mum/cook/taxi driver for a while.

Does anyone work in IT in Christchurch? What is the job market like?

Couple of places actually. I was born and raised in the "Silicon Valley", which is around the San Francisco/San Jose area and there is a rather large contingent of Pacific Islanders/SE Asia folks there. My dad used to be the Operations Manager for a lab, and every now and then they would have pot lucks where quite a few traditional Thai/Philipine/Indonesian dishes would be present. I also spent 4 years in the US Navy and there were quite a few native Philipinos.

On a personal note, I have NEVER met a group of nicer people than Filipino women. They all are absolutly genuine and sweet. Too bad the Filipino men don't see that... :?

hi cloudboy

yes, lumpia is a favorite dish to bring to potlucks. it's easy to make and stretches to feed armies. and because you live in the silicon valley, it's like saying most of your neighbors are filipinos! (i think if i visited california i would wonder if i was in america or in the philippines, with most of my "kababayans" opting to migrate there) My own mom and dad live in san francisco right now, and my brother-in-law lives in los angeles.

thanks for appreciating the filipinas. yes, i do wonder the same thing why many (not all, though, there are still a lot of smart filipino men around) filipino men don't cherish the filipinas. it takes the americans, japanese, europeans to appreciate our brown beauties. ;) :nice1
