Greetings to all. We are married USA couple who just had our EOI selected (husband's work is in critical need area) but no job offer. We are going to NZ 11 Dec for 5 months (have approved VISA but cannot work....which is okay with us). We know he can get job offer when there (emails saying so) BUT we only want to do all that if we have PR. BIG QUESTION - do we bother to get medicals here in US before we leave knowing they are only good for 3 months (we already have FBI check good for 6 months) or should we wait because it won't happen in 3 months? Any help please as we have them scheduled. Our goal is to be able to keep US and NZ home as our skills are flexible enough we can work here and there. Many thanks for comments!

In my opinion, the best thing would be to EITHER do the paperwork while in the US, OR do it in NZ. It sounds like it could be a bit of a hassle trying to get the medicals in the US before you leave for NZ on Dec 11th. You might not be able to get the FBI police checks back before you leave for NZ.
You might be able to get the medicals done in the US, if everything is done exactly right the first time, but if the doctor misses a test or needs to have you come back for something s/he missed, then you might not be able to get it done by Dec 11th unless you get started right away.
Maybe you should try to do all the paperwork (medicals, etc.) in NZ? If you can get a job offer while in NZ, that will make the application much faster. Have a friend forward you the FBI police checks from the US when they are done.
You need to gather all your paperwork to prove your work history if you don't yet have a job offer, so you would need to get that done while in the US also.

If you get your medical here in NZ, make sure the doctor is one who has done them before. We got 2 docs to do the medicals and there were things both did wrong. Finally found a third who did them right, but you have to ask around first and make sure you find someone who knows how to do them and is known for this.
