Hi Gang:
My name is Kyle and I have been reading this forum for awhile--I thought I should introduce myself. I am a high school math and science teacher from the US seeking to work as a teacher in NZ. I have submitted both my NZQA and NZTC applications, and am hoping to find a job and move to NZ before the start of the schoolyear in February. I have just started applying for jobs, but am wondering if I may have missed my window of opportunity for this year? I may have started too late in the process. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful.
If not this year, I hope to see you all in NZ sometime in the future. I think it is worth the effort.
Sincerely
Kiwi-In-Texas

Hi and welcome. While I am unable to answer your question about teaching jobs in New Zealand I wish you all the best with your job applications.
Cheers,
Suzanne.

There are still plenty of jobs available on the Education Gazette online. If you get your qualifications/teacher cert back soon, you should still be fine IMHO. All teaching positions are listed on http://www.edgazette.govt.nz/
I watch it regularly, and since I've been here (Sept) it has ranged from 1400-1900 positions available overall, so the "window" is still very much open.
good luck and welcome to the forum!

Hey Kyle, welcome to the forum. I'm currently preparing to do my graduate degree in teaching in NZ in 2008, but my specialization will be Social Studies/History. There are a lot of jobs on the educational gazette now but keep in mind a lot of them are for fixed-term relieving positions, not permanent positions. You should still have a good chance because Science and Math are the most needed positions and NZ schools seem to have a high turnover rate. Also they are opening a new senior high school in Albany, Auckland in 2009 so there will be a lot of new positions open then if you don't find a permanent job this year. When I've asked the faculty of education at the university I plan to attend about job availability they have said that teachers willing to take a job anywhere in NZ can always find a position. I'm not sure if it will disadvantage you that you aren't in NZ now, but I'm sure other teachers on the forum can answer that better. Good luck!
