OK. I've finally decided I'm going to go for it and get a horse. I haven't owned one for, ohhhh, 20 years and I have forgotten a lot. Any advice from the horsey set (Kat!) out there? What are the pit falls? Where should I look for problems. Just any advice really. Thanks! :)

Don't do it... horrible animals! ;) Rode one once and put me off for life, 10 yrs later my bum is still sore when i think about it.:exit
Hope you find a nice one that you like, and that doesn't throw you off :) .

Don't listen to them - go for it but get someone to go with you. Work out what you want it for (presumably not show-jumping or eventing - or maybe I'm wrong). I have seen sites with horse ads on them but I haven't dared read too closely having just sold my five to get to NZ in the first place.
My intention is to avoid horses at all costs but I doubt that will happen. Is there a riding school near you? I know (and you'll probably remember) that they are a useful source of information about known horses for sale rather than buying one with unknown history. And you can get a few refresher lessons in too.Not for 20 years eh? That'll hurt in the morning!
Good luck and let us know how you get on. I could live my dream though you at a fraction of the cost.

hi Nicola,

I'll PM you later, or if you are home during the day, pm me your telephone number & I will ring you from work - our phones got a line fault so we have a swarm of bees joining in the conversations!
Update on cavalcade later
