Should one submit an EOI before attempting to apply for NZ jobs in I.T.?

If you have enough points to apply now then I would start the process.
The further along the process, the more likely a NZ employer will take you seriously, and it may take you some time to secure a job offer unless you are lucky.
If you do get a job offer then you can always update you EOI, or ITA with the details (then the application should be 'fast tracked').
Others on the forum have been unable to secure an IT job whilst overseas and have had to visit NZ for interviews before they were successful.

Ian,
Thanks for this. I have started the process of filling in the EOI. I am on 60 points already.

yes i would say start the process now - its taken us almost a year to get this far - 8 days to go :exit
half way through our EOI/ITA process I got offered a job so it is possible. be careful of your timings vis-a-vis holiday periods or NZQA assessments and so on ... the days all add up
good luck to you

I would try & get along to the Expo, I know a long way away for you but check out the website & see if there are any companies that would suit you, check their own websites for jobs advertised & get along to the Expo to meet them, may save you some time if you get a job your end, worked for us but may not work for everyone
Good luck

Would definitely get your EOI underway even without a job offer especially if you have enough points to 'get into the pool'. It was at 100 to get into the pool and 140 for automatic ITA when we applied early 2007.
We submitted the EOI with 135 points and no job offer, got knocked back to 115 points by NZIS, invested in OH coming out to NZ for interviews in April 2007, he got 3 offers out of 4 days of intensive interviewing, accepted one of the offers, updated NZIS which pushed us over the points required and we got sent our ITA.
OH arrived in NZ on a Work Permit in July 2007 to start work, he came back early August to collect me, our son and the all important Blue Stickers and we all landed in Auckland on 11th August 2007.
So yes submit your EOI, and I agree that it can be hard to find a job without actually being here but you never know your luck.
HTH and sorry to ramble!
