Hi All

So we finally got around to buying a BBQ. Spent a few weeks looking and weighing up what size etc. Anyway we made the plunge and very proudly bought it home last week.
As it was such a nice day today, this afternoon at 4pm we decided to put it together. Thinking maybe an hour ish !! Oh how wrong we were.
The Instructions were terrible. My OH had to dismantle the thing more times than you can imagine as we had missed bits.
Did not help with us both in fits of laughter in disbeleif of how long it was taking.
Da da....3 hours later we now have a very nice BBQ sitting on the porch, complete with cover. Okay, so the gas bottle and pipes are not attached yet, but we were a bit scared about that bit as we are used to Briquettes.
Hopefully we will get to use it his week at some point and all the assembly will fade into the background...apart from the million photos I took along the way, with a shaky camera through laughing.

So I think I will have a few banana's in celaration of our BBQ.

Have another couple of beers - sounds like you deserve them.

Happy smoking and charring!

I agree about the gas being a bit scary, but the assembly of mine went well, except I made it in the house and then had to move the bed to get it out through the patio window. I now use it 4/5 times a week as our oven is so pathetic

We put our barbecue together this weekend as well - it took us about 5 hours, so you were super-speedy in comparison! I have two little nuts and bolts in my pocket still - no idea where they should have gone...

Cant remember how long it took hubby... not more than a couple of hours I dont think but ours is just a plain three burner thingy without a hood! Gas didnt bother us though, just hooked it up and hoped for the best!

Does anyone else think that using gas is basically BBQ CHEATING :laugh!!

I want a normal BBQ where I have to use my man powers to set it up and light it and keep it lit!

I have seen one in warehouse but as next door (and everyone elsi in NZ) has a fancy gas one - I'm a bit nervous at getting a "normal BBQ" for fear of ridicule. I can just hear them now "look a the stupid Pom with his rubbish BBQ" :laugh :laugh

Dont know what to do. And i cant be the only one that thinks like this:confused:

Don't worry - there are plenty of non-gas barbecues about. We're getting a normal BBQ as well as our gas one (a Weber one touch gold - the Rolls Royce of charcoal barbecues, apparently.) If my husband had his way we'd have 4 barbecues. Our deck will soon be better equipped than our kitchen.

we have a gas one and yes I think its cheating sort of, I much prefered a coal one, I have told Rob to make one like our Deer Farm freinds, a 10 gallen drum with a Chimney stack, and it cooks like a dream, he chucks logs in it.

or maybe a BBQ/chimeny place on the new deck he needs to build:nice1 (after the horse floats finished of course:laugh )

That's so funny :clap , but it reminds me of BBQ's I went to in the UK where the chicken was charcoal on the outside and red in the middle.

If my husband had his way we'd have 4 barbecues. Our deck will soon be better equipped than our kitchen.

I agree, I think gas is cheating. In the UK I would never have bought a Gas one but could not find a charcoal one.
As I pass the patio today I keep making myself jump as there is this big brown thing on the patio.

Table and chairs next. How hard can that be?????

And yes, we also have 2 bolts and 3 washers left over from the BBQ.....

Table and chairs = slightly easier than barbecue, but only because there are fewer pieces... And, if you get it wrong, they're not in danger of exploding!

They might come in handy for the table and chairs! :laugh
