WooHoo.....we have finally done it. We are now proud owners of about 2 acres not too far from Christchurch! We are busy designing our house/land use....now need to find decent building company and have been told the paperwork could take up to a year :o .....but as we are staying in Auckland until 2009, we are not in any hurry :)
Here are some pictures of: front of land; view towards the back (need to plant a load of trees as screen); and view to NW of Southern Alps (camera on zoom) that cannot be build out :)

I know exactly where that is !! :nice1 In fact, looking at the Alps shot we're about 30km nearer to them between those trees!! :laugh
Make way - my parents could be your neighbours :D that's exactly the sectioned area they have their beady eyes on and which we looked at last Xmas. They were attracted by the great view of the Southern Alps and the proximity to town.
Is Joe mowing your section by the way - and if not, who is, need to research?
Oh, oh, and do you know what restrictions, if any, they have in place regarding build height/fencing/hedging/radio masts?
PS - My parents are enamoured with Murray Homes' designs..... after trawling round most of the builders during their last visit!!

:laugh - unfortunately we're on the side on which the view can't be built out - but I guess he'll be objecting to my parent's plans to build a few apartment blocks for ex-crims next door :laugh

Oooh, exciting stuff, and nothing like planning ahead!
Gives you plenty of time to check out options for plans/design etc, and time to save up loads too!

Of course you know we'll need pics of every stage of the build.

There are already 3 British families there...OH went and introduced himself to the potential new neighbours :)

Joe has said he arrange it for us....must remind him :nice1

Selwyn district does have a few height restrictions, to protect neighbours views, I think. Nothing difficult to work with though. If your parents are interested in seeing LIM or anything, PM and we'll dig copy out.
We have designed own house....no wasted corridor space. Researching builders...Golden Homes very appealing at moment...they do steel framed houses, decent amount of insulation (as we want max that will fit in wall, plus internal walls insulating too), double glazing etc...all as part of their standard spec. They do less of the fancy internal fixtures and fittings, but don't want to be paying for those things on a morgage anyway and I LOVE painting and decorating.

Yep, will definitely need to do some saving after our Xmas vacation. Very excited, but it's all a long way off yet.
