Hi there

We are currently living in Auckland - we have got a chance to move down to CHC with work and need to find a place to live within a 45 minute Max. commute of central Chc - any recommendations greatly welcomed. We would like to be able to have a bit of land - not too much just enough for a few animals(a few chickens/sheep/pig etc), in an area with a community feel, a decent primary school,..... - not asking too much I hope!

There is lots of us live in canterbury areas!!
I live in rural locations, few kms south out of Springston "town" (only got one shop!!), near Lincoln & Rolleston (where all shops are!!), with bit of land and soon to have few animals :D There is good schools in Springston, Lincoln and Rolleston and also got strong community. Took my OH 20-30mins to his work based road off Birmingham Drive from our house :nice1

Really you need to travel around till you feel the place is right for you, that what we did, from north of canterbury to south of canterbury in 6 months :o

Here bit of info on christchurch and canterbury..

For houses with land (as in 2+ acres) within a 45 min commute to Chch CBD you would be looking at the following areas - they range from small hamlets to larger towns and villages.

West Melton
Kirwee
Ohoka
Swannanoa
Oxford (might be pushing the 45min commute though)
Darfield
Springston
Tai Tapu
Lincoln
Leeston
Rolleston (out of the residential estates)
Rangiora / Ashley Gorge
West Eyreton
Courtenay
Kimberley

You could also try Loburn, but again not sure wether it would push the 45mins commute a wee bit.

Hi Richard
I have relocated to Canada but lived for many years in a small community with great schools just 15-20 mins from the centre of Christchurch. It is called Tai Tapu and here is a link

There is a very trustworthy fellow in realestate who lives in Tai Tapu called Brian Reeves. I believe he has his own website so if you search for him under google I am sure you can find out more.

Good luck with settling into a new country. I am still settling into Canada now but it is not easy when you up and move especially from your family!

Sarah
