Just a quick question to all who live on or near the coast. Do you encounter sea frets??? If so is it seasonal or due to climate changes. Its just something that we suffered from when we lived in scarborough, just intrigued really to find out.
kind regards

Had to Google that one !
Basically a sea fog - or what we would call in Edinburgh - a Har.
Umm, no - Auckland is surrounded by water and the weather stream moves far too fast for any fog to last long. We do occassionally see morning mists - especially after a warm sunny day and a cooler night - but they tend to burn off very quickly. We definitely don't get the Hars or "Frets" that we got in Edinburgh that hang around for three days and made life miserable.

Many thanks for that. Your quite right , they are miserable and its good to know that the climate in auckland doesn't create them.

Haven't seen any sea fog in Wellington either, thought it was once but turned out to be a low cloud - problem of living on a hill in Wellington :laugh
I have seen that Wellington and Auckland airports have been closed due to fog, so it must occur occasionaly. Certainly for us, much less often than the UK.
Would be worth finding out if it's common on the lower south island?

From what I've seen, the Airport closures are due to ground fog - which generally vanishes reasonably quickly (especially in Wellington :) ). The sort of sea fog they get in the UK can literally hang around for days on end.

In Otago we get the very occasional morning mist in the autumn that burns off as soon as the sun comes up. Mostly makes the place look even more picturesque.

The only fog we get to see up this way is usually alcohol induced I`m afraid :o

Well folks this morning riding into manchester at 6.45am it was foggy and icy.
Quite cold on the ole motorcycle, with frost forming on gloves and jacket. Brrr...
It sounds that the effect of fog enhances the place, and i will certainly be glad that cold wet sea frets arn't a common occurance.
Kind regards
