Hi!
I'm very seriously thinking about emigrating to New Zealand, for a period of about six months on picking fruit or something like that (if all goes well, I might just stay and gain some roots:)). It's a bit complicated, though. It's the first time I leave the EU and I don't really have a clue on what I need to do, or were to start!
If you could give me the basics on what I need, like... a step-by-step thing to get to New Zealand, I'd really be gratefull!
thanks!

I'm not completely sure how to do it, because we went a different route. But I just wanted to welcome you to the board.
If you are young, you might look into a working holiday visa?

Hi.
I know of two young guys who are coming here on a Working Holiday Visa and they will be looking at finding work through this association www.wwooff.org, it might be something interesting for you as you mention picking fruits and that kind of casual labour.

Or if you are young enough there is the working holiday visa, or a visa to be a seasonal worker.

Thanks everybody!! A couple of ideas on how to get started is exactly what I need.
That BUNAC thing seems like a very good way to get myself to New Zealand. I want to go there mainly to visit the country (heard you guys have some huge birds down there!), but I also need to sustain myself during my stay. So, a type of work that isn't very rigid and alows me to leap around is just about perfect. I'll definitly will take a very close look at this. thanks a lot, jubjub! :nice1
I will most surely also contact WWOOF. It's very interesting, and also in the line of work I'm looking for! While searching for it, I even discovered that they are represented here in Portugal!:clap
But, if I want a more stable and sedentary stay in NZ(and a longer one, of course), where could a quality control technician for the construction industry find work?

It's very hard getting into New Zealand... :(
Because I'm not a british citizen, I can get into the BUNAC thing.
I've been trying to contact some companies, but havent had any answer.
Any ideas? please...

Where are you a citizen of?
Bunac has some other schemes with other countries. I know the USA at least (which probably doesn't help you).
If you are under 30 years old and with no children you can look to see if your country has a working holiday scheme. This is basically the same as the Bunac scheme but with a bit of a lower age limit and you must provide your own insurance rather than buying it via the bunac scheme.
Have a look:

There are options to change your visa once you get over there and are offered a full time job. If you like.
I hope that helps!

its just as hard to get into NZ as a perminant resident for british citizens as anyone else, theres no special favours for us just because we come from the UK.
The young persons working holiday visa is easier from some countries than others, it depends what the agreement between your countries Govt and the N Z govt is. and you have to be under 30 to apply for it. details should be on the nz govt immigration site.
Even if you can't apply for that the do have a restricted 3 month fruit or seasonal workers visa that you can apply for but it is restricted to a type of job in a specific area.
A useful website for this sort of thing is www.backpackerboard.co.nz
