Well we have known since we arrived that we needed to do a theory test for our licences, but talk about leaving it till the last minute!! (We will be celebrating our one year anniversary tomorrow!!) I went this morning and did my theroy test - god I was nervous, but passed with 34/35!! :clap

kev is really cutting his fine, because he has his class 1 licence (class 5 here in NZ) he needed a medical so went for that today and is going to do his theory test tomorrow, he has to get a minimum of 33/35 (normal car test is 32/35) so I'll make sure theres plenty of money in the account for him to have a couple of attempts :D - not cheap at $84 a time!!

Well done, you! That's exactly what I did - waited till the day before our first anniversary! It's a great feeling, isn't it, and very exciting when your kiwi licence comes through!

Well done girl :nice1 Let Kev know that there will be around 10 questions relating to the Class 5 licence, and they are bog standard.

Kev passed his medical, and his theory test, he was trying despartley to beat me with a 100% score, but got 34, well thats what he is telling everyone, but the chap at the AA place actually put him down as a 33 becasue he had a slight scratch on a box. (You really have to be very careful not to accidently take off any of the silver in the other boxes, they make you sign beforehand as well to say there are no marks on any of them! )

I took mine as soon as I could, and before I started work as I am working for a car leasing company and we sometimes get to take the cars home, but only if you have an NZ licence. I now have my UK licence in the car permanently and my NZ one in my wallet - I keep forgetting to take my wallet with me, and would hate to be caught without a licence.

Just joined the forum, really enjoying reading.

Congrats on your news. My husband has a UK Class 2 (C) license, do you happen to know what the same license is called over in NZ?

Try having a look at the land transport website, and the relevant factsheets for heavy vehicles.

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/factsheets/

The normal car licence here is a class 1, motorcycles class 6, anything inbetween is classed as heavy vehicles and you also need a medical to get your licence (Kev paid $55). Be careful with the class you are taking, Kev had his class 1 in the uk, basically he can drive anything on the road, the woman at the AA was trying to say it was a lower equivalent in NZ, she even rang someone at land transport, Kev eneded up almost taking the wrong test, but was so sure they were wrong he checked with a different person who confimed what he had thought was correct!

That happened to me Marcia, as they said that all i had was a car licence. They ended up searching the web when they saw CLASS C & E on my licence, even though i had explained to them beforehand. I have even been told that the UK truck licence isn't recognised here....lol. Come on we are more professional than the gimps that drive here thats for sure.

Well done Kevvy boy, another British trucker to add to the mix. Hope you'll never need it though.

As for UK class 2, thats NZ class 4
