Just wondered.. return flights are always cheaper than one way... as far as i know.
So what do people do,is there some fantastic system for immigrants for one way flights(in my dreams Iam sure) or just dont use the return half of the ticket... hopefully anyway :)

Thanks

They're not always cheaper. For us from Japan, Air NZ is very expensive for one-way versus return, whereas Qantas is about half price for one-way versus return. Also, I think Qantas has a special emigrant deal if you're coming in from the UK or Singapore/HK.

Ok thanks. So Qantas doesnt do those emigrant flights from Japan, nor NZ air?

But you found the Qantas one way was a good deal?

Are you in NZ now?

Hi Probyn, You do not say where your flying from. But if your departing from the UK take a look at Cathay Pacific too, last time I looked it was cheaper to get one way tickets and I have used them before and the service was great.

We found Singapore was about £100 per person extra for return compared to one way from Heathrow to Auckland. We paid about £1500 for 5 of us one way.

Actually, only HK, according to this page (http://www.qantas.com.au/international/hk_eng/products/migrantconnections.html).

Air NZ will only quote you list price for one way, which is ridiculously expensive. Qantas will give you a great rate for one way (via Sydney). It was under 8 Man one way to Welly.

Still in Japan.

I just booked my flight today, so I thought I should add my two cents. I was actually very surprised to find one-way fares were about half the return fares, not an arm and a leg. I booked Air NZ from Los Angeles to Auckland for US$750. Air Pacific was US$100 cheaper but had a long layover in Fiji. From what I've seen flights from Japan cost around the same when I priced them recently to see what a future vacation to Tokyo might cost. Qantas seems to be more expensive. Oh and Emirates was definitely the nicest airline I have ever flown on.
