I remember reading the post about dog food being significantly more expensive in NZ. Out of curiosity, what does monthly heartworm preventative for dogs cost in NZ? What about monthly flea & tick preventative?

It's a good thing for my dogs that I love them, because as the vet bills and shipping/quarantine deposits are starting to be paid, I think I must be insane for bringing them along. :roll

Hi Shana -

The good news is that there's no heartworm in New Zealand, so worming meds aren't necessary. If I remember right, Advantage for our 70 lb dog was around $45 NZ for a 4-pack box. We haven't used it all winter though. The people at the quarantine kennel suggested just using it during the warmer months. No fleas so far anyway :laugh

Good to know. I was wondering if NZ had heartworm. Couldn't find anything about it.

Just need to worry about regular worms that the heartworm meds take care of :roll !

This is what you need - approx $33 for a 4 pack depending on where you buy it - called Advantage Multi (does all the NZ worming and fleas) - available from the vets and I think I've seen it in the supermarkets too.
