Hi just found this site wondered if anyone could help....we want to go to NZ forever.....husband is a ceramic tiler to trade also has an HGV licence neither on the trade shortages. My mums cousin lives in NZ and is resident but he is not close enough family member to sponsor us i don;t think! He would however be able to give husband a driving job with lorries. Question - do we go over on tourist visa get job offer take papers to immigration office and wey hey and risk being deported at first step onto nz soil ....or business long term visa and sort out when we get there......oh dear this will be worth it when we are there sometime in the future.

cheers

I am surprised that neither of these are on the list. I was under the impression that they were short of HGV drivers and it seems any sort of building trades man here is in short supply. Any way you can do a double check on that info.

Hi Bertifi, and welcome aboard.
My pennyworth.
First of all, I would check out the HGV driver side of things, as I know for a fact that another member is going to NZ on that very basis.
Secondly. anyone who has a qualification and or experience in virtually any of the building trades should have no worrys when finding work in NZ. They are apparently suffering a severe shortage right now in all trades. Building consents are at record levels and they simply dont have the skills present.
It is probably safest and best to try and obtain PR before going out, but this can be difficult unless you have a job lined up. It is not illegal to go on visitors visa and then find work, but best not to let on to immigration that is what you are up to.
God luck

Don't know about tilers but I'm sure that HGV drivers have recently been put on te shortage list 'cos one of our members has just received his visa through applying for that exact profession.

Good luck.

Bertifi,

Hello, i am that person people are talking about. :yes :angel HGV driving is now classed as a immediate skilled shortage. :nice1 If you look on the first page of this forum you will see updated list for skills, click on the link and it will take you straight there. The classification you are looking for is Heavy Vehicle driver, their classes are different than the UK. Here it is class 1, but over there it's class 5. I take it hubby has class 1 licence? :hopeso
If there is anything i can help you with then don't hesistate to PM me, i can give you a good contact to get you started.
Hope i have been of help.

Kim

Hi
I went to one of the migration shows at the end of last year. One of the seminars was run by Priority One (which is used by the Bay of Plenty for recruitment). Anyhow guess what - HGV - in fact truck drivers were on the shortages list. The contact that I had was Bill Murphy - he heads up the initiative

Hope that this helps
