Like most, we like the idea of moving to NZ so our kids can have a safer and better outdoor lifestyle (I have been to NZ 8 years ago). We have been looking into it and it seems like a minefield we don't know where to start. My husband is an HGV Driver therefore we could apply for a WTR visa as long as he gets a job first. Then I was reading that partners (does that include wifes?) cannot be inlcuded on this visa. Do I have to apply as well? Will he need a job before we can submit an EOI? If you do not received an ITA, can you try again? The WTR visa only mentioned skills that were on the Long Term Skills Shortage List, but his job, HGV Driver, is on the Immediate Skills Shortage List? HELP! All seems so impossible?

If your OH gets a work visa you can apply for a ...I forget what it's called exactly. Streamline visa? Aha! Family Stream! I knew it had a stream in it...

Anyhow it's a work visa for the partners of people who have work visas.
Since the occupation is on the ISSL (immediate skills) and you are looking at the WTR route have a look at this:
My occupation is NOT on the Long Term Skill Shortage List
If you have a job offer from a New Zealand employer but your occupation is not on the Long Term Skill Shortage List, you may be able to apply under our Talent (Accredited Employers) Work Policy. This policy is for people who have job offers from employers who we have accredited to recruit staff from overseas. See the requirements for this policy.

There are some restrictions as to pay and such I think with drivers. I'll let one of the people who have gotten driver jobs answer that!
If the job offer can't meet the pay/accreditation requirements there still may be hope with the EOI.
For the EOI route rather than the WTR route:
You need 100+ points for the EOI. 140+ gets you automatically selected.
If you can get a job offer that will add points to your EOI so you may want to try for a job before you submit the EOI depending on how many points you have.
My suggestion is to start figuring out how many points you would have on the EOI.
Start here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/
If you don't have enough points then your OH may have to plan a trip to NZ to get a job offer.
I hope that helps some and isn't too garbled! :exit

Hi
I just wanted to say welcome and give you some words of encouragement.
We too are trying to get to NZ but are finding the whole process mind boggling. There are so many rules and regulations and bits of fine print that you don't find out about until later - anyway, that's how we found the EOI/ITA process.
Good luck with it all. I'm sure it will work out for you eventually.

Thanks, how far along in the process are you?

We have been trying to get to NZ since January. We already have 2 withdrawn ITA's to our name because of problems with work experience and qualifications. It's hard to explain without boring you with too much detail. We were told that the only way we would get accepted is if we had a job offer from NZ.
We tried to apply for jobs from the UK but found that really difficult because employers seemed to not really be too interested because we hadn't shown any committment to coming over to NZ yet. So we are hoping to go to NZ in Feb next year for a recce/holiday and try to find some work while there.
Hopefully that will work!!!
Good luck with your application - I hope you have success.

Hi there,
OH is a HGV driver, we tried going out about 2 years ago, it really was not that easy, their basic wage was not enough for a WTR visa (you can't include any overtime etc)! Anyway we didn't go and now wished we had, so i am watching this thread with great interest!
Good Luck
